Che'_Moderator
Don't believe you. It can't happen where guns are not allowed. Firearms are allowed on FT Hood. Better argument is that it was a soldier, which is one of the only people Mike thinks should be allowed to own firearms. In addition, was not an assault weapon, so Mike is off topic and will be warned.

Commander Riker
I'm just hoping the dumb masses hire a republican next time... because it'll drive weapon costs down, right? Then I can has more. Wouldn't mind buying an AR.
caanglin
Firearms are allowed on FT Hood. Allowed is a stretch. Every base I have been to they have to be checked in and left somewhere ("armory"). Even the people who live on the base can't keep them in their homes. They have check them out and return them when they want to use them. I'm not sure but I think even the MP's had/have to do the same. Fudge_Brownie
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-pennsylvania-high-school-stabbing-20140409,0,6765295.storyMike, since you're the punching bag for this: Thoughts? No one is dead yet. We can't know how this would have turned out had he used gun(s), but I'll concede the gun is harder to run from and likely to have done more lethal damage. The issue here is that he used easily obtained devices that don't make an obvious loud noise every time they are used. Do we need to do anything? Or do we need to "move on"?
flyfishing3
Ok, the HS stabbing in PA happened in my kids school. My family is fine. i was hoping this really wouldn't surface but.. This is a major tragedy and its touched literally people we know. i live in a small suburb of Pittsburgh and maybe we were all naive' but this is reality. I really do not want to ruin a good thread were people can voice their views, but i want this to fall on mental health. It could have been 10000000 times worse.

Fudge_Brownie
Wow, I posted it thinking you might have some feelings on it considering it was in your state. You must have been losing your mind.IIRC, you have CNN on in your office 24/7. Did you find out about it first from CNN? I hope the kids aren't too shaken. Something tells me you're going to be riding a lot in the coming weeks.
Burn-E
Everything changes when what you see on the news happens in your home, your school, or to those you know. Rough news Mike.
Burn-E
It's getting warmer in Chicago, slowly and by fits and degrees, and with it the death toll from gun violence is on the rise. What halts gun violence? Is it greater police presence OR tougher gun laws AND mandatory minimum sentences? http://www.wbez.org/news/mccarthy-dismissive-crime-research-110026 Guess what the top cop in Chicago advocates? Commander Riker
Going to jail for gun possession makes about as much sense as putting people in jail for marijuana possession. It doesn't really solve anything. Apparently we didn't learn everything prohibition had to teach us. Chicago, to me, is a place of complete irony. Guns are illegal... and they have some of the most horrible gun crime statistics.
Burn-E
It does solve something: it puts more money in the pockets of the correctional officers union members.
