It does solve something: it puts more money in the pockets of the correctional officers union members.

Just like the TSA helps keep unemployment at bay. Thousands Standing Around.

BTW... I hear they are talking about getting weaponry soon... wonder if they will be flunkies with AR's.

Continuation of the theme on what causes gun violence in Chicago.

45 People Were Shot in Chicago Over the Weekend

Reporting from NPR. Apparently it has something to do with the weather, gangs, and lots of guns. Funny how even with some of the toughest gun laws in the country, this problem persists.

Top Cop in Chicago once again,

"it's like running on a hamster wheel. ... We're drinking from a fire hose, seizing these guns, and people are back out on the street."

But here's the thing, people need to quit pointing at Chicago as proof that strict gun laws don't reduce violence. Because it is easier to pick up guns elsewhere out of State there is a direct illegal pipeline funneling these guns into the city.

It is not easy to acquire a gun in the city. Most of these gang bangers are using "gang" weapons that they "rent" or borrow from the group. They're not going out and buying them on the street.

If you want to prove whether gun laws reduce violence you need a consistent legal framework across the entire country likely at the Federal level.

Why don't people ask these "gang bangers" you speak of what the problem is? Hint it's not guns. Those "gang bangers" would use anything.

There was a good documentary posted a while back in this thread. That actually followed these "gang bangers" and other people around and nobody mentioned guns as a problem.

Meanwhile in GA...

Keep telling yourself that. Innocent infants wouldn't be dying in a drive by knifing. ;)

I know some of these gang members. I know some of the people impacted by their ignorance and efforts to protect their own honor and turf. I understand the family and community structures that are failing to support the young men who grow up with little opportunity and no vision for the future. I don't need some documentary to tell me what is going on in these communities.

Yeah, because some extra gun control legislation to disarm law abiding citizens of their scary 'assault weapons' with the shoulder thing that goes up is definitely going to make the hardened criminals turn in all their illegally acquired non-'assault weapon' handguns. And the police are going to magically appear to save the bystanders when they call 911 because they can't shoot back.

You are a troll and a dumb ass. Go read the whole thread before polluting it with ignorance and a failure to comprehend the nuances of this dialogue.

Just because you suddenly were granted privileges to access restricted forums doesn't mean we're interested in your idiocy. You're arguing against a strawman of your own construction here.

Did I say disarm law abiding citizens? Did I say anything about whether or not thugs would turn over their weapons? No, what I said was Chicago is a red herring in the argument for gun laws reducing gun violence specifically because Chicago does not exist in a bubble but is surrounded by regions and States with looser laws. So the vacuum refills as you remove guns from the street.

So... if Chicago's gun laws don't disarm the law abiding population and embolden the thugs who are armed regardless of the laws... what exactly do they do? Of course the black market will import guns to meet demand... again nothing that can be stopped by any amount of anti-gun laws. The problem isn't that there are guns, there will always be guns, that genie can't be put back in the bottle. The problem is there is a demand for illegal guns because they've set up a playground for thugs called "the war on drugs"... it's about as intelligent as trying to control speeding by limiting how high speedometers can read.

Seriously, do some reading on this issue and specifically about what is going on in Chicago before you post.

I have... there's nothing to suggest that any amount of legislation, even on the federal level as that Chicago "top cop" suggests, will do anything to limit gun violence. The 94 AWB did nothing. No matter how much they want to ban the current instrument of choice they can't and they refuse to take any action to change the behavior patterns. Gangs are essentially business enterprises that refuse to be regulated and they'll operate as long as they're profitable. You have to go after their bottom line by legalizing their product.

It's funny, you think they're having a drug war.

From the article you linked: "Just about any teenager in Chicago today can tell you the story of Chief Keef and Lil JoJo, two rappers from the South Side neighborhood of Englewood whose songs serve as anthems for their rival gangs." "But he continues to Instagram images of himself with guns and drugs."

Yeah, it's totally facebook's fault, has nothing to do with them being in rival gangs who traffic in drugs. Bet you'd love to blame it on the video games too while you're at it. But no, drugs being illegal, turning the hood into a literal warzone and incarcerating a staggeringly massive percentage of our population in prisons that are basically criminal vocational schools has nothing to do with it...

Just quit posting seriously. You don't live in Chicago and you have no idea what you're talking about.

Repeat after me, it's not about drugs.

It's NOT about drugs.

IT'S NOT ABOUT DRUGS.

Get it?

It's not about guns either. It's all about respect or at least their concept of it. Did I blame Facebook? Did the author of the article? No, he said that social media simply amplifies the intensity and immediacy of the tensions that lead to violence. How do you counter that? With more officers and community activists who engage the boys and diffuse the tension before it escalates. Just like they're doing in NYC.

You can't keep the discussion straight U.D. so I'm done discussing it with you.

Why don't you just get it over with, call him a libtard, and speculate that he must have voted for NObama. Keep your confrontational tactics in to youtube and newspaper comments. You don't have to agree with anyone, but you don't have to be a complete asshole either.

Because liberals aren't retards and I'd agree with them on most issues, just not gun control? Real liberals like having the liberty to defend themselves, I dislike how people think liberalism and progressivism are inseparable from gun control...
