Ihatespeedbumps
So it was a little slow at the shop last week and a co-worker and I decided to build a rear C pillar brace for the S60, much like the VIVA sells. Please excuse the unfinished apperence, it will be painted when the weather gets a little nicer. Here is what I used. Total cost $40.47 Made a template with some carboard and traced it over 1/4" welding stock. In hindsight I probably could have used a thinner piece, but bigger is always better right? The pipe used was sourced from the plumbing section. It's threaded at both ends but that dosen't matter since you'll be cutting that off anyways. Next all of the flammable stuff was removed from the trunk Newly cut plate mocked up. Both sides are the same shape, you just need to flip them over. Pipe cut to length and then tapered to accomadate the slope at which it was mounted. Pipe mocked up in place, about to be tacked. Since I'm the worlds worst welder Tim was nice enough to lend a hand. Tim finishing up the welds. AND finally the finished product! Not bad for 40 bucks and a few hours time.
JVC
Thought about doing the same for a rear strut brace... Nice work! Feels stiffer?
Ihatespeedbumps
Feels great. Did the front strut bar conversion a few weeks ago and it's... meh. BIG difference with the rear bar! I actually couldn't believe it.
Gideon35T
And you're selling these for how much exactly ? ;-)
Ihatespeedbumps
Ha! After materials/time it'd be better to just buy the VIVA brace. Will be happy to make copies of the template and send it out though.

Ihatespeedbumps
I mean it's just a scrap piece of cardboard. Send me your address and I'll mail you one.
RobT5M
Would this work the same for a s70? Bracing it as such?
Gideon35T
Same idea, sure. Same design, no.

Oreo931
Very cool Is there a similar mounting point in 850s/s70s? I can't recall... I can only think of the mounting points at the rear shock mounts.
_HighVoltage_
Wait, do you have the bigger swaybars on the car? I've heard that without them these braces don't really make much of a difference.
Ihatespeedbumps
Don't know if it's similar for 850's/X70's. Honestly I have not looked and I don't own one anymore. Will snoop around some cars at work tomorrow. Factory S60R sway bars installed. As I mentioned above, I didn't feel so much with the front bar as I did the rear. The rear seems much more willing to track with the rest of the car. Any trace of side hop that was present seems to have been eliminated. If anyone would like the side template I'd be happy to mail you one, just PM your address. No payment required, call it my Christmas gift to VS
Gideon35T
Might be easier to make a digital copy and put it on here. No postage required, haha!
JVC
Might be easier to make a digital copy and put it on here. No postage required, haha! I was thinking that, then all you have to do is print it out!
