Opinions are just that! The fact that you don't is just that. Clutch Warranty Void if flywheel was not resurfaced or replaced. If you work in a shop, you are doing your customers a disservice not to mention lost revenue. Just my 2 cents. Not looking for a fight.

You won't know if it's 'good" unless you have it checked for trueness. Safer to have a skim cut to be sure, either way. If you're slapping it together with old parts I can see not bothering, but if new clutch is involved, it makes no sense not to.

In this particular case, I was pointing out the larger diameter of the clutch contact patch. Not so much that it's outside the existing, but rather that it's half on/half off the existing worn surface. So, true, it's probably not much different if at all in terms of deck height... but it could cause some really weird wear and heat issues IMO.

Also, it's very inexpensive to have it done... and it was off the car anyhow... so why not? Didn't mean to rag on their swap. Hella cool to see a RHD swapped wagon. :)

In a former life I ran an automotive machine shop, Never saw a flywheel come in that didn't benefit from surfacing. Most of the time hot spots don't show up until you take a glaze removing cut / grind, you don't want to try and cut hot spots if you like your tools.

Exactly, the wear/heat issue is the main concern, the edge where it's contacting outside the old clutch's worn in spot will contact first and have more pressure on it than the rest of the clutch surface, causing the disc to bow in slightly and overheat on that edge, since it will always be contacting that part first and slipping on that part alone before the rest engages.

It's an similar problem to running new brake pads on rotors with grooves in them.
