Matty Moo
The goal...getting this 500lb beast out of my basement. The chimney had to come down when the exterior was redone this summer so there was no point in it just sitting there. The other night three of us tried doing it, it took us 30 minutes to move it 60 feet across the basement and up all of three stairs before throwing in the towel. It was just too awkward with nothing to grip on. 500lbs is nothing to fuck with on stairs either.. Sooooo...after calling it quits I figured something out. Build a sled to drag it on. I had some spare 4x4's and 2x4's at my shop so I made one. I took a 1" boring bit and made holes for the legs of the stove to fit securely in and used wood screws and 16d nails to secure it all together. I also hot-glued cardboard to the bottom of the 4x4's to make it glide up the stairs. 2o minutes altogether. Then.....the guy buying my woodstove shows up with his friend and we lift it on the sled. Use one strap to secure it on the sled and use the 20k strap out of my Jeep to pull it up the stairs. Two of us pulling, two up them pushing with a 2x6 in case something goes wrong to lock it in place. This pic is on my kitchen floor...girl wonder would have thrown a shit fit if she were home. Up the stairs in way under a minute, and two more minutes out the door onto his trailer. None of us really even broke a sweat. Zero damage to the stairway or any of the carpet or floors. Then Chuck would have melted all the peices down and made videos of it.
