boxpin
The stock intercooler has a small pin hole in the bottom. Assuming its to drain off any condensation or oils that make it into the intercooler. When we change out to a FMIC this drain is gone. With the addition of water/meth injection there will inherently be additional fluid accumulating in the bottom of the FMIC. Has anyone added this drain to their intercooler? gmsgltr
your wmi shouldnt get down there... i thought the same thing and when i recently took it all out even after spraying there was no water/meth in the line after the nozzle at all the oil is another concern and I agree with you on that but i just swapped FMIC's and again, there was no major oil accumulation at the bottom of my cx racing core after 3 years of use... have a pic of your wmi set up/ positioning? boxpin
This picture shows it. The spray pattern is wide and will go into the intake and also back down the pipe.
survolvo
Did you have that when you smogged?
gmsgltr
thats exactly where mine is on my pipe, and as i mentioned i did some hard pulls then took my lower fmic pipes off to inspect and i had nothing - buts thats not to say over time the atomized water in there builds up and then sits down there... what nozzle are you running? mine has this huge chamber and an extra filter element. also, i have the aem "medium" nozzle on there for roughly 315cc/min looking for pics
gmsgltr
wow - i have no pics of my set up and my car is still in a million peices... i really dont take pics of my mods anymore lol.

Volvo5.0
When I switched intercoolers from the CXRacing to the Precision, I noticed a mixture of meth/water and oil laying at the outlet of the intetcooler. Not a lot, but I decided to drill a small hole in the Precision IC to allow it to drain.
boxpin
Thats what I mean. I am sure fluids make their way to the lowest point.
lookforjoe
What control solenoid do you have for your WMI? If you're using a boost pressure switch to ground the solenoid, then the instant your let off the gas, the solenoid should clamp shut. Lesser quality solenoid may allow some pressure bleed, also circuit wiring may be such that solenoid is not 100% off; have a schematic? I wouldn't go drilling holes in the IC, but that depends on your setup. Mine is in much the same location

I wouldn't go drilling holes in the IC, but that depends on your setup. A lot of the WMI kits, entry level single stage kits as well as progressive kits, don't use a control solenoid at all. The controller simply turns the pump on and off (progressive kits run at a predetermined duty cycle). In a perfect world the flow would stop as soon as the t-body snaps shut, but the pump is spinning and doesn't stop immediately and the pressure in the line is bled through the nozzle, so some fluid is injected behind the closed throttle plate. It's not a lot of fluid at all and yes that fluid will run down and lay at the lowest point. Adding a solenoid to the WMI system would help minimize the problem, but a very small hole drilled in the IC solved the issue for me.
boxpin
I am sure whatever fluid is pressurized in the line will finish out its spray when I let off the gas. The spray pattern of the jet does shoot into oncoming traffic if you know what I mean. It can also hit the walls of the pipe and stay. I am sure I have fluid making its way to the intercooler. JVC
If you're worried about it, just drill a hole and then tap a bolt into it. Remove bolt any time you're under the car and drain out whatever is in there. Or just undo a silicone hose and let it drip out (if anything). boxpin
I think I will do that. I like the bolt idea.
JVC
I think I will do that. I like the bolt idea. Just so that it doesn't have any air leak, and you could then put in a pretty big drain hole depending on the bolt size you use.
