DVP Posted February 5, 2013 Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 I have a volvo s60 that makes a puffing noise somewhere around the bottom of the exhaust manifold. The car is in idle and it increases in speed then goes away and shortly later comes back, it sounds as if there is a valve, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Ihatespeedbumps Posted February 5, 2013 Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 Sounds as if your exhaust manifold gaskets are leaking. Best way to check is to crawl under the car and feel around the down pipe for escaping exhaust. Also look for black soot marks. If you don't find any leaks in the exhaust, remove the heat shields above the turbo and do the same. My money says yours are leaking around cylinders 4 and 5. Evap code is unrelated.
