Those Of You Using The Grom Usb Unit On Sc-901...

Whats the trick?

Installation was simple, the unit works. Kind of... It does play music off of a usb stick and sounds good, but it is infuriating trying to skip through songs. It will let you skip a few, and seems to work ok, but will inevitably get stuck, or lost. When it does this, none of the skip/rewind, etc.. buttons function and the only way to gain control again is to turn it off and back on. On occasion it will show an "error" message on the radio display. And it only seems to want to play a small number of songs out of the hundreds I have on my USB stick. I've read the manual a dozen times and searched Google and come up with nothing useful. I've tried rearranging the music on the USB stick to be in folders, out of folders, etc... Nothing really works.

Am I just missing something stupid? What am I doing wrong?

I've heard so many good reviews on this thing, but I am far from happy with it. And their customer service is by email only, and it's been days and I've heard nothing back from them.

It also wont play over track # 99...

Finally got an email back from Grom. I described my problems and they basically just said that the older radios are finicky and they will look into it in the next few days to see if there is anything they can do with it.

Yay...

I'm about to yank this pile out and send it back and just get a real radio like Ghost Shadow recommended in the first place.

i can't offer a whole lot of help, as i have this with an s60 radio... I've had issues with the provided USB stick (it's failing -- freezing while playing, hard to skip tracks), but the exact same file structure on something else would be fine... and directories with more than 99 songs would play, but it would drop the 1 (so, 1, 2, 3...98, 99, 1, 2, 3..)

I only ever get CD ERROR when it's too cold to function.

Have you tried the latest firmware (# 33 on the dropdown box) ?

This is timely as i saw the review on IPD and am really keen (well not so much after your review). Hope you get this resolved soon.

I have an 98 C70 as well but is the SC-900 :(

think about this, even though you dont want nav right now. kenwood makes it so that if you do, buy a cable, buy the app from garmin and you golden!! navi on your radio thru your iphone!

you can have that bitch siri do everything for you with siri eyes free, there's app mode for you apple lovers

brian, me and apple have philosophical differences...i only reference apple for the iSheep. its a huge selling point. About your droid, turn by turn is great until you get no signal or a phone call comes in.

pras, DNN is android based...kenwoods own overlay
