VolvoRine
I recently changed my water pump OEM (2 days ago) and did a timing belt (hydraulic tensioner) service too... when I filled up my car with water just to do a system test the car will not leak but it literally pours water from the back of the timing belt cover by the water pump, I'm thinking is the freeze plug on the block... how hard is it to change that without removing the engine off the car?? Any advice would be highly appreciate it! -Josh
Commander Riker
I'm just going to take a stab... but maybe the pump is seated properly or the gasket got folded?
Brant
What freeze plug? These blocks don't have freeze plugs.
Ghost Shadow
this is the only pic i have from tearing down a motor for head gasket. the channels around the cylinder walls empty out into the water pump area. if the water pump is not seated right then the water will pour out of that area. Matty Moo
I've changed 8 water pumps altogether, I haven't had a single old gasket come cleanly off. I've always had to scrape some of it off the block blindly while tearing up my arm. I'm guessing either of three things. 1. Some old gasket material was still on the block when he installed the new pump/gasket. 2. The gasket somehow got fubared/torn when he put it on. 3. The pump got hung up on the plastic that makes up the back part of the timing cover.

I removed the lower timing belt cover and found out the gasket from the old water pump was not completely removed... thanks for the advice guys! Problem solved!
