Why You Need To Dump That 15 Year Old Scd-900/901!

You keep saying people hate it, but I think a lot of them (including myself) just aren't interested in all that extra stuff.

I'm glad you are really happy with your audio system. It's clearly cutting edge and cool. But why are you mad at me for not liking it?

I think you are getting a bad reaction because you keep telling them what they have sucks.

Hey mods -

How can I +1 this more than once?

Um, so explain it to us Clark Kent, what exactly is involved in installing this god's gift to auto audiophiles into a P80 platform double din system. If you REALLY want to sell people on doing it, tell us why it's so damn easy to do with the beautiful, informative pictures you always share.

Let's talk fascia, let's talk wiring, let's talk power (battery, amp, etc), let's talk speaker compatibility. Any changes that have to be made there to support it?

I'm not sold yet.

Have Dynaudio. Have center speaker. Have SC-901. Have Blitzsafe for iPod.

I get why you like the flatscreen updated interface.

But I lose some things in the process. So 'splain it to me so I can do it and maybe I'll actually do it.

I have a high end multizone touch screen system in my 2009 Odyssey with all the bells and whistles including GPS. Hell it even has Bluetooth and a fully voice activated system. But I still have tactile buttons for the key interactions like swapping favorite channels, raising the volume, and shifting between audio / video sources. This is the primary issue I have with the touchscreen only systems in a car. Because my primary focus is still driving.

I ASSume that everyone knows how to install this stuff. I ASSume there has been 1000's of how to thread and All My units are already done in all my cars :)

Changes to stock stereo? NO, this DNX890HD can be told that you have 6.75" over sized speakers in the front with large tweeters, 6x9" rear speakers and 12" sub then you can tell it its in a sedan/suv/wagon/coupe ect. then you can also bring the sound stage from low/mid/high. You can set staging, dual zone, and the list goes on and on.

Center channel can be done by front left positive lead and front right negative lead and run it to the center speaker. you will be using the RCA's to the 4x100 amp so no need to worry about it.

Since the radio can be told what type and size of speaker that is in the car. the signal will be optimized for that driver. I am a FIRM believer in your stereo system is only as good as its weakest link. Here it is the SCD-900/901

Alain, the odessey sound system is far from great. Its good for 2009 not worth the $7000 price difference from a EX-L to a touring. No traffic tuner, no lane assist for the navigation, cant look up by telephone number, its 4 years old with 5.5year old maps unless you updated it. We can make plenty of excuses why NOT to get it. I dont care.

I honestly dont have much time till the end of the day when i get home...work is busy...like today i got a 2013 F350 in for its 5th round of mods...it only has 1400 miles on it!

All of those things cost far less than $1200 ;)

true, i didnt say this is for everyone

it's Alain. I figured that's what the PM was for.

thats what happens when i am rushing thru a post...hence why i said to call me.

Oh man you keep making me want one of these! I definitely can't afford this $1200 one but I may see a DNX570HD in my future

No DNX 690 is better for a few dollars more, 5volt preouts, 2 year warranty and remote included. PM me when u ready.

 Steve, That's why I didn't spend $7k extra on a Touring. I negotiated an EX-L with entertainment and nav and got the nav and ent thrown in for free. You're not the only one who knows how to work the angles. ;)

Free, plus free upgrades to the GPS as far as a net present value stream goes is a damn good deal. ;)

I didn't say I don't want an upgrade. What I'm getting at is, the unit shown by Ghost is overkill for me. I dumped the 901 and put in a double din JVC unit that does everything i need. I didn't go with touch screen because half the year it's so freaking cold, the touch screen is covered in frost for the first 15 minutes of a morning or evening drive. Not practical in this climate.

I bought a unit with a big button so i could work the HU with my big gloves on, because that's how it is in a -20 environment. It has blue tooth for my phone, but my phone never rings when I'm in my car anyway, so, no worries there. I've never used it. I have a headset if I'm expecting a call when driving. My Ipod is hooked up, I've got a sub in the back, so I'm good to go.

I'm glad you are enjoying the latest and greatest on offer, Ghost. I'm really happy with my set-up too.

I got rid of mine because now I can do this.

I'm just curious, how often do you actually DO that? See, unless I'm sitting somewhere in the car waiting on someone - which isn't all that often (and when I am I have the iPad and/or the iPhone to do this with) - if I want to watch a movie I'm going to walk out of the garage and into the living room where the large flat screen is sitting and plunk down on the couch. Now, I own the couch, and I own the TV and I own the house so I'm not sneaking away somewhere for quiet time in the car which I realize might be part of the attraction for the younger crowd.

So are you saying that I can keep my center speaker and dash with a new headunit? ...but only this awesome $1200 one?

You can, do you need ,$1200 msrp unit? I don't know...do you? I do, LoL. Plus it's not $1200 anyways if you are really serious about buying one. Pm me. I have center channel in my Volvo VR and eveni don't have it connected andi don't miss it at all.

No I definitely don't want to waste a grand on a stereo. That's a complete turbo install or halfway to some coilovers which are much more important. I just got a new dolby speaker since I was sold a bunk one and I love the sound and how the sound stage is in front of you. I'm just curious since I've read everywhere that aftermarket = no center speaker. But I think I know what you are insinuating: new speakers and headunit make the need for the center speaker disappear.

Happy with my 90's technology which is another reason why I like my car as Volvo stereos operate at 8ohms when aftermarket is 4ohms and I don't need any more than that and was good the way it was from factory. I don't need someone to hear my song three blocks away. I also don't need a 1200 dollar sound system which would make my car more prone to breaking into that is why I like this car in the first place because while my friends Japanese cars got broken into when we were on a caravan trip my car did not. I always enjoyed the kids in high school who would spend all their money on audio, then sell it 6 months later and get less than half what they paid for it. I know Steve started this thread because he is in that business and wants to push his products he gets for free but in all honesty it never made sense to me why people wanted to spend thousands of dollars having the best sounding car. I can see if you are making an entertainment room in your house but not a car, also I feel being in my car is my free time away from technology as I am surrounded by it for most of day and don't need to see messages popping up on my dash. I may be the only one who prefers actual buttons to touchscreen buttons, but I have replace more touchscreens then I ever had actual buttons so is new technology always better it really just depends.

This new kenwood deck MSRP @ $1200 bucks

Has the latest technology from garmin navigation.

Oh yeah it does ipod

it also can do a +/- 12 db slope for your crossover

you also can tell it you have 6.5" components in the front, 6x9 on the rear deck and 12" sub in a station wagon...then set the sound stage to go from your feet up to your head

it also has multizone

in other news, one day some of you volvo guys will get a brand new 2013 vehicler in 2023.

When that day comes, you would be happy that this unit can do OEM Controls.

Whats OEM controls? take 2013 ford F150 that has my touch in it. that radio has climate controls, back up camrea, radio on screen as well as many other features. This Kenwood can go in and retain all that stuff. this kenwood can talk to the two different sets of can bus systems in there.

Just a option for your guys

Will it display the hybrid info on a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid?

And does it iPhone5?
