geck0
Ok I work on My own volvo v70 often and a couple other friends also. I have an odd one this time. It's a 1999 s70 AWD atx. My friend bought it and it had recently had the trans replaced when she bought it a year ago. Since then its been routine maintenance till recently she said she was getting the standard driveshaft noise the clanking but she also had a shutter while turning. After pulling out the driveshaft today.(the carrier& u joint are fine, but the cv ends have a minor bit of play maybe 1/16 of an inch if that) I assume this is standard wear. However after wiggling the rear diff connection (it was fine) then the front (it had play) I noticed the bolts that hold the front transfer case to the transmission are loose. One bolt is .5" out the whole thing is loose and is wet Not sure if its engine out or diff fluid. My question is being that is it loose from the trans does it have a case to case seal? or is it like a shaft seal meaning just bolt it back together and torque it? If i do need fluid whats the recommendation and amount for the diff? Thanks in advance for your response folks!
Ihatespeedbumps
You can just push it back on and re-torque the bolts, no seals required. Have seen this happen one other time to an angle gear and never figured out the root cause. As for fluid, I only have experience with the Genuine Volvo stuff. I'm sure there is an aftermarket alternative though...
geck0
Thank you for the response. Great to hear thats I all need to do. From what I heard of the shop that sold her the car and it's mechanics I assume it's from the lack of a torque wrench.
