bum2kev
Personally, I would not grind those ridges away.
Tightmopedman9
If I could do it again I would have ground out much more. Originally I didn't want to jeopardize the strength of the mount, but after getting installed I realized I could have taken a lot more off. lookforjoe
Personally, I would not grind those ridges away. I'm with Hanks. Get BMac's version. Hacking away that much of the support ridges compromises the integrity of that bracket, unless you add a replacement welded brace out of the way of the compressor. boxpin
I have a request in the Wanted area for a mount. If it turns out that it needs to be ground I will weld on reinforcements.
Platinum 850
does anybody have a picture of how the rear engine ( OE original ) mount should be modified on 850 for it to clear the 20g or 16g? I don't know if this helps, I'm guessing grind the crap out of it? Also, Rye should be selling BMac's mount (above) separately as well as all the other parts in his RZ kit. If you can wait until he starts selling them that would solve the clearance issue and make for a nice shinny install with no grinding. From Platinum 850 20g Install Your best bet would be to look at the pictures in my install thread.... You also have to realize there is a huge difference between the 16G and the true 20G housing... I would say in my case, since it was a true 20G (not a 16G refitted with a larger 20G wheel), the turbo housing is what need the most work... I wish there was a way I could tell you how much had to be ground off exactly... My process was through trial and error, ie: see where its hitting, grind off what I think needs to come off, the mount and the turbo housing, at the same time, re-fit it again, and again and again, till it went in... In all honesty, I would simply go with an alternative mount, if available, when I did my install(s) there wasn't anything available... If the one pictured earlier in this thread is a possibility then I would highly recommend that you wait or pursue that option first... far less headache in the long run. Either way good luck, the 20G was honestly a great setup and one could say it should have come this way from the factory, as boost did lag in comparison to the stock 15G or even the 19T, but wasn't completely absurd, I would say a very good compromise...
