Recommended Posts

this is a subject that i dont know where to start looking or start buying...complete noob

problem: trans is coming out of the 2001 C70. making stange noises, so time for a trans swap and new clutch stuff.

idea what do i need. dont want to spend Quaif money. just want to swap it out and go, but if and when i am in there it would make sense to upgrade or preventive maintainence stuff.

850R clutch kit. Part number 272218

Single Mass Flywheel from an 850

Internal slave cylinder... I assume you already have the internal slave setup if it's from an 01

As far as getting a Quaife... How much power are you currently making or do you plan on making?

Tasca Volvo has the R clutch kit for about $200

Get the SM flywheel from a junkyard. I got mine for like $25 from a local junkyard

I'd probably replace the clutch master cylinder too.. Just because...

why do i need a single mass? versus the one i have now?

if i stay with my i am assuming i have a dual mass would i still use the R clutch?

quaife...i am not getting, not spending that money.

so no matter what i would buy a clutch slave?

read something about throwout bearing too

Newer trans has the throwout bearing and slave cylinder integral to each other. I would for sure put a new one in when the trans is out. Singlemass flywheel is easily machinable and simpler, R clutch is a fine clutch...That is the setup I have and for the use I give my car it is just fine

If you want to keep the clutch feel your currently used to I'd just get a new stock dual mass clutch and a new dual mass flywheel (rather than doing the single mass conversion suggested).

I've had both and I like the dual mass stock on my 2001, previous owner replaced everything including flywheel recently.

Oh and don't forget the little things, you'll want flywheel bolts, PP bolts, probably do the transmission oil while its out, RMS, internal slave/TOB (clutch slave and throw out are one piece on these newer transmissions)

Oh and if you keep the dual mass setup, I'll sell you a clutch kit for it if you want at a price you cannot refuse! I got it thinking it would fit the single mass flywheel but they are pinned differently.

you're not looking to do crazy power.

so, pull the trans, new clutch kit from Will (above), new slave cylinder, throwout bearing, master cylinder.....not sure how dual mass flywheels work, but highly doubt you need a new one....get yours resurfaced for about $10 and you're done.

new rear main seal (MUST)....new pressure plate and flywheel bolts

some Royal Purple gear oil/fluid

have some ATE super blue around to drain your old brake/clutch fluid and get going with some good stuff

that's it man....parts will cost you about $300 if you get the clutch from the guy above, and labor is up to who you find to do it...

so get clutch from will

so get slave from survolvo

is that all i need? besides the bolts right?

Yes, get clutch kit from me.. I posted it on VS facebook.. haha but yeah. This thing is just sittin here collecting dust.

That disc is not DM. Not enough depth to the friction material. I posted the Spec disc for comparison, but the S60R disc has the same OD/ID and depth if friction material.

EDIT: it is possible that it is a non-60R disc & pp, BUT until you can confirm it by either the LUK part numbers or physical comparison, you can't assume that's what it is.

Steve, if you want to use the S60R clutch (good for 350whp) you may need a different flywheel. All the DM's are not the same size.

euro x70r clutch kit?

There is no specific clutch kit for a 98 x70R. The 98 R manuals used the same clutch kit as the mid-98 V70 AWD/XC. All R manuals came with a dual mass flywheel from the factory. I can't remember the part number of the clutch kit off the top of my head though...
