Engine Oil Light Comes On During Hard Cornering

On two seperate occassions the engine oil light has come on when I was doing hard cornering in empty parking lots. (I am trying to get used to the limits of the car). It may happen more often, but my eyes are typically looking at the course.

Oil level is at or near the full line.

Is this common? If not, what is the likely culprit?

I am arfraid that playing hard on a clover-leaf will cause oil starvation to the bearings and that I will end up toasting the engine.

Thanks in advance.

PS, this looks like a great list. I have read several of the threads and it looks like this list is going to be a valuable resource.

No, I do not know the code. The light comes on momentarily and goes back off when I stop turning.

I imagine that the oil is going to one side of the engine and that there is no oil for the oil pump to suck into the system. Many cars, like my soon to be sold Porsche 944S2, have baffels in the engine to keep this from happening. On cars that do not have such a baffle, it is common for those tracking thier cars to add it.

I am new to all things Volvo and am not sure how this issue is handled in thier engine designs. For all I know, it could be a bad oil sending unit or something similar juast as easily as an oil starvation problem.

Thanks.

I dunno about the V70, but on the 850 there is a seperate light for the oil. The oil functions in the 850 don't have the capability to cause a CEL directly, they are night tied into the ECU. It could be unified on the 70 series.

The lateral force keeping oil out of the head/pump as you said is what I was originally thinking, but I did not think it should effect the CEL. You may try this again and add just a bit of oil and see if it reoccures. Of course for street driving you probably don't want to leave that extra oil in there...
