Need Input On Summer Plans.

Recommended Posts

So I've been out of the car scene for a while, but this summer I want to get back in. This summer I should have about $25K and I want to track prep my S70 and convert to AWD. I have some ideas, but I don't really know where to shop for the kind of parts I would need, nor specific setup. So this is pretty open ended.

This is the car:

It's probably worth putting together an extensive list of parts and work (of which you have some vague knowledge), followed by a quick mention of what percentage $25k is of your annual income.

Your post would also be more credible if you didn't yet own a Volvo.

Flying to South Dakota to buy T5's when they are for sale on your local craigslist is the way to go for sure.

Well considering I already own the car, and have owned it since 07', then I manual swapped it in 10', and rebuilt the engine in 11', I'd say I'm actually a bit farther along than some of you seem to think, and I have all 8 of my ASE certifications, as well as access to my work's full machine shop in addition to having anything CNC machined at the cost of materials.

The 25K is entirely for the car.

My idea in the past has been either to simply go RWD and remount the engine, or to keep the transverse mount setup, and purchase a mitsubishi evo transmission, and go awd. I want to make a full race frame for the car, then drop the S70 chassis down on top, so that way I can do the suspension over all proper like.

The engine at the moment is running one of my custom tunes from way back in the day when I first messed with M4.4, with NA cams and a ported throtle body. I want tohave a custom intake manifold made so I can run ITB's, and convert the engine from turbocharged to supercharged.

I realize this is well beyond $25K, but I want to get a good head start this summer, so I can have it ready for summer 2014/2015

I found a 850 FWD to AWD M58 swap from some UK forum a whilllle ago. From what I remember he fabricated a jig to make an entire new rear subframe. I'm searching for the thread, but it might take a while.

BTW, check out my tuning M4.4 thread. Pretty basic compared to the level you were getting into, but I've had good luck tuning a medium amount of mods. It would be nice if we could talk about adding some additional subroutines to the existing code.

NVM it was was on TB, you probably saw it already I'm guessing:

Ben

Did you see the 4.4 cracked thread?

I have not, but I'm not planning on using M4.4

YEah that looks good, I need to read through it a bit

If I go AWD it would be a evo drivetrain, and if RWD I'm not sure what I would use for a transmission. I have the ability to make adapter plates between the volvo engine and any transmission for the most part, so i'm not worried about that.

What I really need is to get dimensions of everything on the engine block itself. IE the intake/exhaust bolt patterns as well as the bell housing bolt pattern. With that information I can at least get the intake manifold for a eaton m90 supercharger made up in CAD as well as get started on the transmission adapter plate.
