atefitty
When you "got on it" a few times in third what were your psi readings at what rpms? And be honest...it isn't going to change the fact that you may have bent rods.. I find it hard to look at the gauges when getting on it since it can get kinda squirrely sometimes and I prefer to watch the road..I would say bent rods also, but it depends on what your setup is and what happened during these pulls. If it's a bent rod could I use a stethoscope and listen to it from underneath or something. Or is that even necessary at this point? You also had snow and ice jammed up inside the t-belt cover. I guarantee you that OP did not jump timing simply by doing a couple of 3rd gear WOT pulls. He bent a rod. Looks like I get to either do a build or get another motor from a junkyard.and go with the same setup..I'm not sure I want another motor with 150K plus miles though.. matt b
Call LKQ (lkqcorp.com) and get an engine from them. It will have a 90 day warranty and they'll have different mileage options. Otherwise, see if someone is parting out a car in your area, plenty of Volvos in the NW. Not much point in listening to anything, IMO.
Zappo
If it's a bent rod could I use a stethoscope and listen to it from underneath or something. Or is that even necessary at this point? It would only sound slightly louder under the car. The noise travels through the engine on a bent rod, so it is harder to track the actual location. Drop the oil pan and take a flashlight to look at each rod up near the wrist pin.
Dick Dastardly
TIme for a rebuild or a JY engine. Next time make sure when you're doing those 3 gear pulls not to mash the throttle at 2200 rpms. What do you run as far as turbo, wastegate (and preload), tune and TCV? It has the stock 15G tubo with wastegate adjusted to I think 4 psi. Stock turbo control valve and ARD green tune

Thanks, they have one for $950 used..I just don't want the same thing happening again so I will look into getting a motor that is built up a little better to handle more boost. Go Rn or grab the very same engine on Ebay, from them for much less. IIRC, the shop that did my manual swap on my 850 ended up calling them and getting a better price than what we were quoted, simply by asking for a discount. Yellow95
I would be checking timing before I threw an engine at it. Not many bent rods on here with 15g's and no MBC's. I wont say it cant happen but...............
