Keaton85
Here as an image I made up about 5yrs ago when explain how the trap works Trying to show how the oil has a harder time going up into that cylinder and instead drops down into the block drain. Volvo5.0
I never opened one up to look inside, nice pictures! Seems like most of the time the box could be cleaned up and would perform just like new, but obviously there are extreme cases that might not be worth the effort .... And while you're at it, if you get one that's REALLY nasty, might as well pull the pan and clean the ports in the block and pan to get the system working 100%.... optimus prime
Lol. I suspected this and and its why i refused to buy a new entire pcv system and just cleaned the whole damn thing.
optimus prime
Also wouldnt this mean its a good idea to just pour a bit of seafoam down your pcv hose that goes to the top of the engine to ensure the oil return stays nice and clear every once in a while? optimus prime
... If it disolves into the seafoam and gets sucked up it burns off the same as the rest i think and if it disolves and drains into the oil pan then the oil change youll do in 3-6k should clean it out if you run seafoam before every oil change like i do. Kiss4aFrog
not sure about that....all that sludge ends up in the block or in your cat? It will end up in your pan and oil filter. A lot of it will just get dissolved and dirty up the oil in general. But it's best to get it dissolved and then changed out of the engine. Just regular oil changes and quality oil will take care if it. If you purchase one that's been neglected or is smoking it might be a good idea to pull the black box to check those engine drain passages and flush the box !! In those pictures I don't think anything but a screwdriver and or wood dowel would brake that open. But I'm just as shocked because everyone said change the box and it couldn't be cleaned. I thought there were baffles and orfices inside. IT'S JUST A BOX !! It's not even as well designed as a cheap Ebay catch can. A good engine flush added shortly before the oil change would help clean some stuff up too.
