Is there any one in here that has any expierence with the onboard navigation systems on the Late model Volvos? I have on the way the in dash unit from ebay and need to know what else is needed to install it successfully. What I have on the way is the speaker monitor unit.

Has anyone installed these systems from scratch? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You would need some plastic trim to fill in the holes around the nav system because it'll probably be smaller than the factory radio, and you should get a wiring harness which lets you wire the nav connections to it, then you just plug the harness into the plug that you pulled out from your factory radio. What is the model of the car and which radio did you buy?

Kevin would be correct. 02 xc. I have the centre dash unit on it's way from an eBay vendor. Just need to know what else I need. It's the factory pop up system.

The manual shows a picture of the right side steering wheel with controls on it bit do know there are different options for it.

As for the fist post there are plug and play kits I have seen on line and Kenwood makes a great replacement with a 7" screen that is awesome but I ain't got a loose grand for it.

Should have asked in the midwest chat thread. That system is useless if You don't have the remote for it. They were available at ebay if I recall correctly. Also You need DVDs with maps as well as the DVD unit that goes in the trunk. Everything should be prewired in Your car so its a matter of plug and play. Maps are 300 for the whole set.

Thanks for the reply! My owners manual show controls on the right hand side of the steering wheel. Hmm, I'll give Erie a call on that and the remote can be had on eBay. There's a few. I also noticed a few loose pigtails on in the boot as well. I know one is for a subwoofer. I did get the eBay popup and it is in good condition. Now to pop off the centre speaker grill and find the wires and get that pluged in. Then need the DVD unit and maps.

I did think of a stand alone unit but I live in Chicago! Why I want the permanent install. Yes, I have two nav apps on the cell phone but do no good out of range.

Should've asked, I would sold You my kit (Popup display, DVD unit and speaker grill)

And the controls You speak of, if there was NAV installed by the dealer, You would have a little remote on the inside of the steering wheel on the right spoke built in to the wheel. that way You can control the GPS without taking the hands of the wheel.

You are correct. The control is on the right side of the steering wheel. There are a few standard remotes on eBay now.

I didn't ask in the MWC forum because I didn't get any replies from a request for a control arm I put there last year until after I bought one from FCP.

Send a pm for the price of your kit and I'll let you know if I got took. I guess I should have asked any way?

It is a plastic clamp that goes around the wheel spoke and you literally drill into the wheel for the harness to go through. I will see if i can find it tuesday and get some pics of it for you. I also have the template for some of the dashboards/center speakers for the "factory" garmin install that was being offered for a while.

Thanks for the reply! Couldn't find any wires to hook the system up in my car yet. Did some digging around on the net for some more information and it looks like the steering wheel has an indentation cast into it. I did get the hand controls for this system. Please take a picture of the template and let me know!

ok, I can't find mine anywhere. but I did find an install kit for an xc90 that shows the part. This is the page I found with the Volvo Accessory install instructions for the system. The tool is toward the bottom of the contents picture, above the bolts, second item in on the left. sorry I could not find mine and I hope this helps.
