woah4
Never been highbeamed once, IMO the projectors for these cars aren't aesthetically pleasing, and I've had Many encounters with police stops and ride checks, never once mentioned them. Probably because I don't go with some useless colour or something, they are simply there to improve my vision. It's all in having them aimed correctly, something many people don't take the time to do, but I do and believe me they work quite well. But everyone is of course entitled to an opinion, and I welcome all of them
woah4
I used to have an e36 BMW and I got projector housings for it, and I did not need to use HID's in that car as the lighting was more than sufficient with the projectors. But I have had other cars I put HID's in and took them out again, because they do produce too much glare in stock housings and not much gain (96 impala ss, 94 4 runner) but the Volvo is an exception, the stock housings seem to handle the extra light with no problem, and direct it accordingly when adjusted properly. Maybe other people have had other experiences, but that's mine... And I spend alot of time driving in the dark in the north, where It is invaluable having them. I have 3000k HID highbeams as well, I call them the "landing lights" lol.
survolvo
Never been highbeamed once, Probably because the other drivers are so blinded they can't even find the high beam stalk. At least get some clear lenses. Otherwise the car looks good. Love the color.
Kevin.
clear lenses on stock reflectors = light with no direction = he can't see and neither can anyone else
survolvo
duh, for some reason I thought he had projectors under there...
woah4
Appriciate the compliments, work will continue as usual. I like the appearance of clear lenses but yes then the problem is that there is no cut off line for light, and then you really are just blinding people lol. Anyhow, I'll keep everyone posted as it goes, Cheers -Billy
Kevin.
a proper retrofit is pretty cheap and the light output is really awesome, I would look into doing one I made a how-to-guide on doing one if you decide you want to go down that road
woah4
a proper retrofit is pretty cheap and the light output is really awesome, I would look into doing one I made a how-to-guide on doing one if you decide you want to go down that road I will keep that in mind, thanks. I have seen the ARD kits on their site and like them, but they are a tad expensive for me at the moment. The ebay ones (to me, anyway) just don't fit these cars. But I will be sure to look into your how to, I wouldn't mind doing a projector conversion, and if its feasible it might be something I will try to get done before I go to school this January, as im going to school up north and will be making lots of drives back home in the dark, and will need good lighting. I'm just sorta doing everything you see here on my budget atm... everything I make either goes into the car or school, my girlfriend is starting to hate me lmao. Oh well, these are the troubles of being a teenager I guess haha Cheers Billy
woah4
Back at it again! Front mount installed today. All 2.5 inch piping, 27x7x2.5 intercooler. Greddy BOV to be installed this week, as well as my Ipd cbv block off plate. Going to install my MBC in parallel with my Ard Hd TCV so that I can stabilize the boost, but not spool to quickly. Car spiked to 23 psi today in third, certainly no boost leaks anymore.. This was my temporary solution to the kinked RIP kit until I was able to install my FMIC; With my front mount on, piping mocked up; Ready for a test drive; All is well, R bumper back on, license plate mounted ala f-150 ecoboost lol Looking pretty; Subtle, but present; That's it for now again! -Billy
woah4
Installed a kinguawa actuator today, car feels much better and holds 14 psi to redline on a stock tune with my ard hd tcv. Have yet to try it with my other ecu's, but it certainly feels better. Also got an american headlight switch, so I could turn off the daytime running lights (don't always need them). Will post pictures later! Always more coming -Billy
ruecatinat
I really like the progress you're making on this car and I love that it's a 5-speed turbo wagon but you are killing kittens every time you turn on those headlights - I understand a decent projector retrofit would cost between $300-$350 (especially shipped to Canada, I've been there) so why not just put your stock bulbs back in? You'll probably have better night vision. The American light switch is a great mod, by the way (did it myself), have you done the fog light relay mod yet? Kevin.
To turn off the drls pretty sure you just need a flathead to turn the screw on the switch under the knob
woah4
On Canadian cars the screw was not on the switch, there was a blanking plate instead, so I needed an American switch so that there would be a screw to turn it off with. As far as the headlights, they are not going anywhere. If I do a projector retrofit that's fine, but I've tried pretty well every high end halogen bulb in this car before, and not one even comes close to the HID's. I do alot of night time driving and alot in the country, and nothing compares, I need the best lights I can get so these are not going anywhere. Thanks for the compliments, -BillyAs far as fog light relay I am not sure what you mean, I installed every relay from my old t5-r to get my fogs working, my car was prewired but had no fogs, would the relay mod allow me to have the fogs on with the headlights off? That is one feature I would like to have, I just like the look of it, the fogs are useless lol
Kevin.
Yes, search fog light mod on Google a how to guide will come up on Volvospeed. Basically you pull out the green/white foglight relay and pull out the metal tab and move it Then the foglights will come on without the headlamps having to be on. They will stay on with the high beams too
