woah4
Ok thanks for that TMM9, I will pull the bearings tomorrow and thoroughly clean the rods and backsides of the bearings, from what I read while searching I should be looking for around .005" sticking out? I moved the bearings again and took a picture before I read your post about the assembly lube, So I know I need to clean that but does this look better position wise? I feel better about it. Thanks man, I'm really glad you caught that because I wouldn't have. I'm doing this partially as a learning experience so having guys like you to help me out makes me feel alot better, I really appriciate it. Tightmopedman9
The amount of crush varies based on the bearing manufacturer's specs. Watch this whole video:
woah4
Perfect, thanks for posting that. It seems pretty straight forward from what he describes in the video, I will plasti gauge after I get them in the engine and check my clearances too. Thanks Again for the help
Simply Volvo
Build looks great. My vote goes for the gt3582r with a .82 ar vband housing and an external wastegate flange welded on top of the housing, then a screamer pipe from the wastegate. Go big or go home, right? But seriously your engine will thank you for the alleviated exhaust back pressure.
woah4
Thanks Matt! And That's kind of what I was thinking too, because I have stock pistons it will probably be better to have the least back pressure possible, and the lag might help me get some sort of traction off the line at the strip hopefully. I bought a butt load of brake clean today, some plasti-gauge and a piston ring compressor, and a harmonic balancer puller for when I need to put the new timing belt on, so it's getting there! I'll have the pistons and rods in tomorrow, and my head gasket kit should be here this week too
survolvo
Why do people think you need to pull the harmonic balance for a timing belt?
woah4
Maybe you don't but I had a heck of a time getting the old one off with it and actually ended up cutting it on so I figure why not.. Might go with the ard balancer anyway
survolvo
If your taking it off anyway thats fine, but there is no need to take it off just for a timing belt. There is a metal shield under the balancer that is held on by two bolts. You can take that off then just twist the belt and slide it through. If the engine is out of the car, its even easier. woah4
That's good to know, thanks. Mines in car so everything is harder but I'm trying lol. I have the tool now anyway it was only $15 so if I don't have to pull it now at least I have the tool for later
woah4
Rod and piston assembly's are in, everything within spec and turning over nicely. I will order the new puffer in a few weeks, I want to get the rest of the engine back together first, I might put my 15G on it to make sure it runs well before I start working on the bigger turbo, or maybe not lol. I don't know yet, I'll post more later!
woah4
Yeah disregard that, I ordered this today. Should do the job.
woah4
Got some NA cams off my friend today, gonna start cleaning up all the gaskets next week so I can get the engine back together, my gasket kit and head bolts have yet to arrive so I won't have the engine back together this weekend unfortunatley. Soon enough
woah4
So the big surprise today was the turbo showed up unexpectedly! I was quite stunned as i was told when I ordered it to expect 30-35 days... It's been 3 lol. So far everything looks great! This thing is MASSIVE lol it's a little intimidating but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy so it's ok. I'll post pics tomorrow hopefully
Aequitas_Veritas
that thing is gonna take FOREVER to spool. lol
woah4
Lol actually I'm more concerned about the exhaust housing being too restrictive at this point, I went with an internally gated .63 ar housing, with 2.5 inch vband exhaust. Should spool nicely, not TD04 nice, but way better than a 3582
