pedro fandango
my Kinugawa 11blade turbine turned up this today, & tbh i'm a bit worried by some of the work on it. I understand it needs balancing, but the nut has just been attacked by an angle grinder. Obviously it'll get rebalanced when i get it fitted, but there does look like quite a bit of metal has been taken off so wondering if someone in the know thinks its ok. I'm not expecting it to look pretty for the price, but i would like to know its safe to use many thanks Duane
boxpin
The attack means its been balanced independently. Although, judging by the method used I would have it checked.

You don't think they could of weakened the nut or anything by taking that much off
blkaplan
thats odd how they shaped the webbing on the turbine wheel. and yes, the grinding on the nut is how they balance them. Those nuts don't have much load on them, i wouldn't worry about it on a structural basis.

I'll have to find a specialist in the area & see what they think
lookforjoe
Looks pretty normal - if there were no grinds anywhere on it I would be more concerned. Any balancing is going to involve removing material wherever it needs to be. You can see where this compressor wheel was similarly ground for balance
