854R, Brake Lights Not Working

Recommended Posts

I had my 1996 854R swapped for an M56H about a month and a half ago. The car runs and drives great. However, I do no have any brake lights. I checked the wiring to the switch, its 2 wires, one yellow and one red wire connected to the 2 prong switch. I tried earlier to see if the spoiler light brake light would come on, it did not. I have not tested the switch. Any ideas? Also, reading codes through VolFCR shows several codes that I forgot at the moment, Ill post pictures in a bit of the codes.

Did you check the fuse? ^_^

I shorted mine to ground by accident and blew the fuse when i was wiring mine.

Try shorting the red and yellow together, the lights will come on no matter what position the ignition key is in. That will rule out the switch.

This happened to my 98 C70 and it turned out to be the brake light switch located behind the brake pedal.

I took mine out and cleaned it out and lightly re greased the internals, after that the brakes were functional again :)

Check out this guide.
