6x9's And Two Liters Of Water

Alright, so I got a bit bored today... I had bought these commercial 6x9 boxes a while back so I finally decided to do something with them. (These aren't for my car but they could be ;)) This can also be compared to commercial box preparation for subs also.

Alright, heres the box...

The first thing I did was attatch the crossover to the bottom with some 3M double sided tape and then wired them to the boxes terminal.

After that, I got some generic bathroom caulk and sealed off all the edges as well as the terminal that is built into the box. This will prevent air from leaking out the sides. After letting that dry for about 1 hour or so the caulk has hardened enough to go onto the next step.

Caulk in the edges.

Next I picked up some batting or polyfill from the local craft store and stuffed the box full of the stuff. This makes the box act a bit larger than it actually is and because 6x9's are generally open air speakers and putting them in a box is a bit of a hinderance to their output. (I'm boxing them so I can use them in my room.)

After the polyfill was placed in the box, I drilled pilot holes for the screws with my dremel and the fastened the speakers into place after attaching the power wires from the crossover. Then I screwed it into place and put the grille ontop of them.

Two finished shots.

Oh yeah, and I drank 2 liters of water during the whole process.

looks good, are those infinity kapps i see? how do they sound?

Yep, those are the 693.5i Kappas. I spray painted the grilles because I liked the black when I had them in the car... sorry for the darkness on the pictures. They sound pretty much like any infinity speaker. Lots of really nice piercing highs and not too much midbass. The polyfill and box gave them a bit more of a hit on the bass when you crank them up however. They're able to handle most of the mid bass in Halo 2 without any problems, which speaks for itself.
