vivalavolvo
First, let me fill you in on what i have done: -Blew up the first trans -Replaced with a 98k trans from a T5R -I did the accumulator mod -Installed an external trans cooler and bypass thermostat So i am a couple years into having this new trans and it too is now acting funny. If the car sits for a few days it will hang in first gear, BUT if i put it into 3 it will shift like normal, without the OD. Onces its warmed up it goes back to normal. There is no other slips, hesitations, or any other abnormal events. I just did a full trans flush with MobileOne full synthetic, the issue is still there, although when operating normally it feels really smooth with the new fluid. Once warmed up i can lay into it without problems. I'm not sure what to do next, other then a swap. 1995 855 T5 ARD Green.
jschaefer7406
Hello, PNP switch is likely bad, pretty easy fix . When you pull it down into 3, you're using different contacts in the switch. Being manual low is rarely used, those contacts are likely less worn than the ones in the drive position. Some will suggest quickly "ratcheting" the shifter back and forth in an effort to clean the contacts, but it rarely works. In the event it does work, it's just a Band-Aid . Hope this helps, Joe
Brad850
When my throttle position sensor and sport mode switch went bad at the same time my car hanged it every gear.
Keaton85
You can rebuild the PNP switch also. I have never had to buy one. Just remove it, open and clean then put a piece of sand paper on a flat surface and gently role a new surface onto the little contact bars. The little bars get worn down and prevents a good contact. Also stretching the springs ever so slightly will help. Then when you put it back together, use electrical contact grease for lube inside the switch. Works great! vivalavolvo
I thought it may have been the PNP switch, but the TCU falls into limp mode if i hold it in 1st too long, incorrect gear ratio code.
vivalavolvo
PNP switch crapped the bed today. No start unless i wiggle the shifter. Luckily i saved the switch from the last trans, it was only a year old. Mo Cars Mo problems.
