Brad850
About to put poly in my control arms. How did you guys get out the old bushings? Also trying to help my brother push the rubber out of his 740 control arms and we are kind of at a loss.

boxpin
I started by purchasing the small press from Harbor Freight. After assembling it I realized I would never get the right angle on it to push them out. So it was returned and I bought this bearing puller set. http://www.harborfreight.com/bearing-separator-and-puller-set-93980.html With a combination of sockets and this puller I got them out. It was not easy at all and I bent some of the puller parts. Thats my experience trying to do it in my driveway. Honestly, I would pay for it if I did it again. B Mac
A large bench vise would work as well since a control arm has an awkward shape.
DVolvoguy850T5
These bushings need to be replaced by sealed bearings. Why wasn't this done in the First place? There are no bearings that can tolerate this kind of stress(trw makes wheel bearings for Boeing 747's)? Do the new poly bushings drop in or do they need pressed? boxpin
Do the new poly bushings drop in or do they need pressed? Pressed in without the center pin. They went in with a vise for me.
98t5M
Maybe this idea could be adapted to fashion a bushing puller for a couple dollars. http://www.___.com/replace-upper-engine-mount-w-oem-bushing.html I used it on my upper torque mount and it worked great.
