Oil Trap To Head Hose Broken On Xc90?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Started flushing the trans in our "new" '06 XC90 (2.5T) today, and noticed that the vent hose to the valve cover is split wide open @ only 75k miles :(.

First off, is this common? Looks like a different design than the X70 hoses that I'm used to, as this one has an accordion section. Is it original, or some aftermarket junk? If it is a new design, is it plastic or still rubber? May try to clamp a section of copper inline to get by...

Of course, we're leaving for a week at the OBX Saturday, so this couldn't have come at a worse time (well, down there would be worse timing I guess ). Any suggestions (other than splicing as said above)? Have two dealers, both about an hour away. Going to call tomorrow and see if I can get one, but I'm not holding my breath that they'll have it in stock :(...

Thanks,

Joe

Its in stock commonly breaking item. 48 bucks for hose and 2 clamps at my work. They always break gets hard and cracks. New hose is completely rubber so it wont happen again. Takes 10 min to change.

You don't need to worry about it being like that for a while, it will not really make matters worse short term - it took me weeks to find time to replace it when I noticed it.

Anyways, see link here:

Thanks, ended up finding your link while doing a search of the part number :).

Not sure how long it's been broken. We bought the car in March, and I don't remember seeing it when we looked at it. Could have been though, who knows. It does have oily residue on both halves of the break, leading me to believe it's been broken for at least a few weeks. I'm surprised it didn't set any fuel trim codes...

Anyway, being a common failure, the nearest dealer did have one. Hope to get her buttoned up tomorrow just in time to leave ;).

Thanks again all,

Joe

Probably been broken a very long time, I remember doing those under warranty. Not a lot of oil passes through that hose, so it won't quickly show up as a leak. Also, ME7 won't detect it as a vacuum leak, but ME9 (P1 and P3 chassis) will catch it every time ;)
