gottarollwithit
Anybody ever put an inline filter into one of the transmission cooler hoses? I was thinking about cutting one in half, then hose clamping in an inline filter. Will this cause problems with flow through the cooler and back to the trans?? Backstory: I just had a new trans installed, but while transporting the new trans to the transmission shop, the thing shifted in my trunk and broke a window. Broken glass might have found its way into the transmission through the hole for the axle. Obviously, i'll try flushing the trans to get anything out, but just in case the flush doesn't get the glass out, i want to run an inline filter for a few weeks just to be sure. Thoughts??? And yes, i'm more than aware that this is a ridiculously stupid problem to have
Keaton85
There is a filter/screen inside the tranny. So the inline filter won't do anything.
gottarollwithit
Wow, i wasn't aware of a filter inside of the trans. Is it replaceable? Any idea where it is in the trans?
Keaton85
It's the sump pick-up that has the screen on it. It's replaceable but not something that you would actually replace in terms of use. It just prevents large items getting sucked up. You have to open up the tranny to replace it and there is no point in doing so.
gottarollwithit
So, knowing that there's potentially glass fragments in the fluid, will doing a transmission fluid flush clear the screen and the glass out? Or, should i just not worry about the glass b/c it's probably caught in the screen?
