magnum46
I've been driving a lot lately, and its time to invest a little in better audio for the trusty 97 850T5. The audio is 100% stock and I run a tune + 3" turbo back from OBX. So I can hear some of that growl inside the cabin. I am looking for recommendations, which includes HU + Speakers and Amps. Not looking to wake neighbors or win any trophys at any car audio shows.. just good clean sound. Features needed include 1. Bluetooth with hands free calling 2. USB in Don't need 1. Video 2. GPS 3. Rear view camera 4. Satelite 5. Pandora 6. CD Looking for a solid last year model that is a great buy/price today. Hopefully the HU will have extra power to run the stock speakers. Will also consider new speakers , if price is right. I guess, if there is such a thing as a 'no-brainer' solution/kit, it would be nice. Skyshadow
If you want cheap then go with a pioneer or Kenwood HU and pioneer speakers. If you want a little higher end then run an alpine HU with either alpine type s speakers or for even better type r's. If you opt for either of the alpines you'll need to run an additional amp. When researching HU's on Amazon, i see a lot of positive reviews on Sony HU's. Is that a good way to go?
TaskMule
I've been satisfied with my JVC KW-XR810 unit. Its not touch screen, but I didnt want that. It features a front and rear USB, so the ipod is hidden in the glove box at all times via the rear USB, and is all seamlessly controlled via the front panel, or included remote. The included wire harness matched the stock wiring and installed without issue. The bluetooth works perfectly. Very simple large controls, front/rear and sub outputs, infinite color choices for display and buttons, under 200$. I have the seperate sub channel running to an Infinity 10, with a Pioneer mono block amp in the back. It is just right for my needs. There is a newer model (KW-HDR81BT) that has higher voltage outputs, a bit more sensitive FM tuner and not as nice a faceplate as far as Im concerned. The 810's are getting hard to find. Speakers are stock for now, but I hear the Alpine's are great and fit right in to our stock spaces. My .2c.
Skyshadow
thanks. I'll look into the alpine setup with type S. When researching HU's on Amazon, i see a lot of positive reviews on Sony HU's. Is that a good way to go? To be honest I have never used a Sony HU in any of the cars I've installed audio equipment in. But look into a specific model that catches your eye and do some researching on what other audio sites have to say about it. What I normally tell customers at the store I work at is that Sony makes everything good (except TVs which are amazing) there are other companies that strictly make audio equipment that I would rather go with.
