Kevin.
Does anyone know if its possible to get a 850R remote to work in a non R? If so, what would need to be swapped? Thanks
Oreo931
There's no such thing as an 850R-specific remote. What year is your car? Whether the remote will work depends on what style remote you have and which receiving module (like your ass) is in your car. Edit: What does your remote look like? And what month/year was your car made? You can look for the keyless receiver box, too. In 1995 thru early 1996 cars, the receiver is behind the glove box, on the right hand side. In late 1996 thru 1997 cars, the receiver is under the driver side kick panel IIRC.

MattyXXL
It doesn't go by looks, it goes by the number on the back of the remote.. You can also look at the number on the module behind the glove box

MattyXXL
If your car didnt come with it.. No you cant use it unless you swap out the Module in the dash. If you swap it all you will have to do is program it..

Kevin.
So just get the corresponding remote to the module and I will be good then?
MattyXXL
Yes indeed, you should be able to find a module and then get the remote
s_moneh
i'll just chime in here. remember theres 3 different kinds of "modules" you have the "basic alarm", "Guard Alarm 1", "Guard alarm 2" Guard alarm 2 doesnt have the module in the glovebox it gets replaced by a "2step" relay under the driverside dash. this is essntially the top of the line alarm that came in the 850's serials don't have to match anything as well. i'm currently using a 960 remote on my 850. aslogn as its the same looking type of remote it will work heres my info... http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/service/850/AntiTheftSystem.pdf
Kevin.
So, I would have to swap all of that stuff over as well? Including the relays?
