Ol' Dirty Noodle
Wasn't sure where to put this so mods feel free to move it. So while doing the manual swap I also finally installed my Whistler Pro radar detector that I got at Xmas. The kit includes a remote radar detector, one laser detector, a display/control unit, misc. mounting hardware and brackets, cables, and a plastic dash trim piece which I modified/adapted and painted to replace my broken in-dash cup holder. Installation was pretty straight forward especially with everything already out of the car for the swap. I mounted the radar detector behind the eggcrate grill Here's a shot of it with the hood closed And in the natural light completely stealth The laser detector needs to be mounted with zero obstruction to the front and rear eyes so I mounted it on the back of the rear view mirror And the in dash reciever The detector itself picks up radar, xband, kband, laser, lidar, and POP. It also has dimable and color changeable lights, optional voice module which speaks over the stock speakers, city mode and stay alert functions. It was very reasonably priced and had very positive reviews, very happy with it so far.
Timbo Slice
Link to where you got it? I'm going to be in the market for a detector soon and I like the hard-wired/custom install. Also, holy smokes, talk about basic head unit. I think mine at least had presets I forgot how basic these cars are. I'm considering picking up another one once I start my job. burnout8488
I *think* the presets are stored and recalled using the 1-20 knob. But yeah, those HUs appear to be even more basic than an SC-816 :-) The S40s definitely were a precursor to the styling of the P2 interior parts, though. It's been 2 years since I last owned one.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
Yea that's getting swapped for nice touchscreen with iPhone interface soon enough, here's the link, I think I got it on amazon though, it seems they've updated the model, cosmetically at least http://www.whistlergroup.com/radar-detector-pro-catalog/pro-3600-laser-radar-detectors-product.aspx?id=
Timbo Slice
May I recommend a Pioneer AppRadio? They're amazing and very affordable.

If you can afford it the Escort 9500ci is the best on the market. I researched the crap outta these, I have to get one as I just got another ticket :(
matt1122
I think I'm going to spring for the 9500ci in my next ride. Still no Spotify for AppRadio. Sad.
Timbo Slice
I don't subscribe to Spotify anyways so it doesn't matter for me, but you'd think they'd have it by now.

I researched the crap outta these, I have to get one as I just got another ticket How about versus the Valentine One? Did some research on my own and apparently the laser shifters are a huge deal! Not that the 9500ci's are the best though, for strictly laser, the Blinder M47 pretty much jams laser until point blank range which is awesome... Ol' Dirty Noodle
This thing has an optional jammer but apparently it's incredibly easy to get caught, cops sitting there gunning people just fine sees you speeding, tries gunning you and all of a sudden it doesn't work not to mention they're most def illegal. Plus most of the ones I've seen you have to operate yourself by holding a button
cruzer555
Jammers ARE NOT ILLEGAL (in all states): Just CA, TX, UT, CO, OK, MN, IL, TN, VA and SC that leaves the other 40 states free to use them. Valentine One is highly sensative / long range but the company has been lazy and not innovated in the last several years, they have rested on their success and didn't add the much needed features of GPS and false alert canceling. Without the false alert canceling like Escort GPS devices have you will be driven CRAZY by false alerts so I'd personally never buy a Valentine One. Laser is almost impossible to detect btw until it has already hit your car and is too late, which is why you need a jammer in a state that uses laser. The best jammer out there is called Laser Interceptor which uses real laser diodes not LEDs like most other units (sadly the 9500ci is in this category). The Blinder M47 is also LED (crappy) so I'd stick with the Blinder hp 905 which has powerful laser diodes like Laser Interceptor or just get Laser Interceptor. http://www.radardetector.org/laser-interceptor-vs-blinder-hp-905-laser-jammer/ My ideal setup would be a 9500ci with the jammers not installed in favor of either Laser Interceptor or Blinder HP 905 jammers. Or if you want a windshield detector / don't have $1800 the new Escort MAX is 100% the way to go, it has the same or longer range compared to Valentine and thanks to new technology it is very good at filtering false alerts and still responding quick to a real threat. Has GPS of course to alert to speed cameras and red light ones and to weed out the false alerts better. This thing has an optional jammer but apparently it's incredibly easy to get caught, cops sitting there gunning people just fine sees you speeding, tries gunning you and all of a sudden it doesn't work not to mention they're most def illegal. Plus most of the ones I've seen you have to operate yourself by holding a button Holding a button?? Lol no! Escort, Blinder, and Laser Interceptor all operate automatically! And heres the strategy to fool cops, once it starts jamming you slow to the speed limit, then turn the jammer OFF so they get a reading and it says you were going the speed limit. Genius eh? Oh and you can get around it being illegal in a state cause they make a killswitch that totally erases the jamming software and becomes a parking sensor system until you reload the software with your laptop at home. Its completely genius cause they can never prove you had the software loaded in the first place so they have no case! Also, holy smokes, talk about basic head unit. I think mine at least had presets It has presets! That knob that says 1-20 is for the 20 presets it has! Look at every P2 car and its the same way, they have 20 presets controlled by one knob instead of a bunch of little buttons.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
May I recommend a Pioneer AppRadio? They're amazing and very affordable. That's exactly what I'm looking for! The fact that it can be used with waze is the major selling point
