rainbowboy
I replaced my 2000 volvo s40 auto. front wheel drive passenger side output axle seal two times with two brand new seals within 3 days. It just continues to leak around the seal. It feels and looks like the axle is seating properly but I just dont know what is going on. I need some body to tell me what im doing wrong or whats going on? Thx in advance.
Timbo Slice
Are you talking about the CV boot? Also, did you clean the area so it is grease free after the install?
rainbowboy
Thx for the reply but I may be misleading on the part im talking about. Im talking about the passenger side "output shaft seal" as for cleaning it yes it was very clean when reinstalling the axle.
Timbo Slice
I would take extra time to make sure you're seating it properly. It's either in or now. If you're sure it's seated properly, you may just have the misfortune of two bad seals, but I'd consult VADIS to make sure you're doing it properly. DVolvoguy850T5
Have you checked the axel shaft to see if there is a grove worn into it? I've seen this happen with harmonic balancers.
Ihatespeedbumps
Are you greasing the inner lip of the seal before you install? Also, it's very easy to knick the aluminum in the transmission case which will also cause a leak.
