Ghost Shadow
So buddy of mine has a 99 xc70, we gots milk shaking in the coolant reservoir only. None in the engine, none on the dipstick. None in the intercooler. Doesnt overheat. where is the oil and coolant mixing? i pulled dipstick and was sure to see milk shake too, NOPE. it is low on oil Opened the oil cap expecting to see milk shake. NOPE nothing Opened the coolant tank and it was coming out of there for sure. Took some of the milk shake and wiped it on a clean towel gave it the sniff test. No exhaust smell, just oil and coolant. It did not smell like transfluid Why is it only in the coolant bottle? Car runs fine, no smoke from tailpipe. i AM Stumped.
DAYWALKER
oil will float to the top that is why you see it at the resorvoir. my best guess is probably your radiator is leaking engine or transmission oil internally. the reason why you don't see it on the engine and transmission dipstick is because the pressure is higher then the coolant pressure so it will only leak one way. phunktified
would have to be trans fluid if its a 99 with the oil cooler on the pan ..
Ghost Shadow
would have to be trans fluid if its a 99 with the oil cooler on the pan .. Correct, that's why I said it does not smell like trans fluid and only oil. Can a clogged pcv do this?
Keaton85
Nope, but a head gasket can give out in the right spot to inject oil into the coolant only.
Ghost Shadow
no coolant in the engine or on the dipstick just loss of oil. where can it mix at like that?
Keaton85
If the headgasket leaks on in an area of oil pressure, it will inject the oil into the coolant. Like the feed to the head.
