Blackout Pillars, Rear Bumper Side Skirts And Split Interior (S70 For That)

Been futzing with some cosmetic mods.

toying around with carrying the black out pillar / glass line from the A pillar to the D pillar....

not sure about the line following off the windshield upper trim - hard to decide what angle is best.

I may redo it at some point, it's only tape so easy enough to remove. Haven't decided if I want to re do the B & C pillars in the CF vinyl or no

bumper skirt treatment can be seen here. I used an XC rear bumper cover & cut it up.

I tried a full wrap & tuck under the tailpipes across the center, but it looked iffy - BMac saw it - couldn't stop it from sagging a little.

Split interior on my Mom's S70 - got rid of the beige seats for charcoal - so to balance it, I redid the door panels - pulled them apart, repainted the inserts with SEM dark charcoal (tried re-covering the inset with fresh vinyl, that didn't work out so well - fortunately I had a spare set of beige panels from an old XC)

Still have to get charcoal rear seats, and do the rear door panels.

I'm not a huge fan of the blacked out A and D pillars but that rear bumper wing looks good. Is that what you made out of another XC bumper? How did you attach it?

Also, your mom's S70 interior reminds me of the P2 R's just do the same to the back seat and it'll be awesome.

it just doesn't look right, ya know??

i understand what you tried to do bro, but it's one of those things where it just seems like you're not sure where to start/stop the wrap or where the transition from window to wrap back to body color *should be??

like you said it's just kind of "iffy" all around to me..

H, leave the A-pillar silver, D-pillar looks ok with the tail lights and back window. Has your rt rear door been changed, or painted?

What steering wheel is your moms car, like the wood, S90?

Love your wagon, what a beast!

Yes, the R/R door was changed.

The wheel in my mom's S70 is my old V70 wood trim wheel.

Gonna sit with the pillar trim for a bit, see how I feel about it over the weekend.

The bumper piece is attached with the hardware from a 740/940 front bumper skirt. It is also anchored to the mudflap.

I agree. With mine, I was not sure where to end it at the door, so I just took it to the headlights.

If you want to keep the A pillar covered, I'd suggest extending the tape around the top of the doors. That way, the line of blackout starts at the door rubber, which is higher than the window glass, and makes the odd angle to the windscreen a bit less harsh.

Not really feeling any of it. Was never a fan of the XC window strip under the rear window, but the B and C are OK. Maybe remove some of the tape and I think it would look better if you paint your rockers, mudflaps, rear bumper and maybe even the front skirt silver. More silver, less two tone.

I don't know if anyone else gets this, but ever since you did the big opening in the bumper it's been looking more and more like the ole skool Cylons to me. :P

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Nice work. I did a similar extension on my X1/9 - carried the door shoulder line down to the headlights

I didn't do the entire door frame, in part because all the older Volvos since the 240Turbo had that look. Hard to decide whether blacking the entire frame leaves enough silver width up top, to balance against the lower body - I don't have the silver rockers, etc that you have.

That's great! I like it! Don't want to do the lower panels silver, I feel it makes the wagon too 'fat', I had played with the idea - I had a silver V70 I bought earlier this year, and considered swapping the rockers, etc.

I think the silver rocker/flaps/rear bumper would really emphisize how low you have the car sitting. I'm going to color match my flaps some day...

That is true - silver rockers would do that - I'll have to reconsider :D
