boxpin
I am going to buy a 2000 XC70 AWD with a blown head gasket. Can I tow it on a car hauler? The u-haul type that lifts the front wheels only so the back wheels will be rolling.
andyb5
If you disconnect the driveshaft you should be ok. Otherwise, say bye bye to the AWD system
boxpin
Never done it. what tools should I bring? I will put the car up on the hauler and get under if from there. I understand Volvo uses different length bolts to balance the shaft...is this correct?
(n)A-GAME
Or for $10 more you can use a U-Haul Car Hauler instead of the dolly.
andyb5
The driveshaft bolts are hex drive, I'm not sure on the size. You are correct, the bolts do have specific locations for balancing
Piston Slapper
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the freewheel mechanism in the P80 AWD system prevent the rear wheels from driving the driveshaft? That said, it's a not a good idea regardless, get the full car hauler from U-Haul.
Abyssal Vortex
You'll save yourself time and a headache if you spend 10$ more for the full length.
Commander Riker
For easiest removal, you're going to need to lift the front and rear off the ground at the same time... putting it on 4 jack stands would work. The center support plate is 4 x 12mm bolts... then there are 2 x 12mm bolts that attach the carrier bearing to that support plate. You will need a 5mm torx for the front and rear of the driveshaft. I suggest using the elongated ones that aren't rounded at the end. However... if it's only 10 dollars more to get a full trailer instead of a dolly, that's kind of a no brainer. I would not trust the freewheel mechanism to prevent any AWD system damage. More importantly, what color is it? And welcome to the AWD club. gottarollwithit
The Stockton Blvd Picknpull has a V70xc just like the one on your flatbed. I think it's even the same paint color. Might be worthwhile tearing off some suspension stuff to get yours back up to spec. Bevel gear and trans were still there. Head was gone though. lookforjoe
Pretty sure driveshaft allens should be 6mm, not 5mm - every one I've pulled has been the same, and the same length bolt (late 98-00) - maybe earlier models had different lengths, or I've just been lucky... I was in it for a short time until the teenager made a bad move. That's the one with the bad head gasket, or a different one? Doesn't seem worth anything if it's got a blown HG and significant body damage, on top of one of the worst colors possible in a Volvo EDIT: nvrmind, just saw the '98 Volvo emblems in the fender.... Piston Slapper
That one doesn't look too bad, some guys pay to have that much camber.
