st0nge
Hey guys, I just picked up my first Volvo, a 1999 C70 Coupe 2.5l with the premium sound sysyem including the center dash speaker. SC-901 unit. Right off the bat with the car I plan on ditching the SC-901 and installing an iPhone friendly head unit like in my previous car. I've done some research but here are a few of my questions: 1. Is there anyway I can still keep the center speaker with the new head unit? Easiest way possible of doing that? Becuase i read that the center speaker is actually hard wired to the SC-901 for power. 2. Does the new headunit have to have 3 sets of preouts (front, rear, sub) for the factory amp to connect to it via the DIN-RCA wire? I know I need a DIN-RCA but I've seen some cables that are just DIN-one set of RCAs then other DIN-2 sets of RCAs. Which one do I need? If someone could help me out with these questions I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

st0nge
Got my headunit wired alll up, works great! Now its time to replace some blown speakers. I took out the center and replaced it with a 5.25" and wired it up to my headunit, works great, but I need a shallow mounting one or one of direct fit. Any suggestions? JA VOLVO
What did you get and how did you end up wiring the center speaker?
st0nge
I had an old 5.25" 2 way in my garage so i put it in its place but its not a direct fit so its kinda just chillin there. And I wired it to the front left speaker wires off my new headunit

Yes - If you haven't got an HU that supports a center channel, just leave it alone. Hooking it up to the Front Left is kinda pointless. Put the old one back and move on. JA VOLVO
What about the positive from the left and neg from the right as mentioned earlier? What would that do for it?
st0nge
The center speaker was blown before, so why would I just leave it alone? Along with the tweeters in the dash, so i need some more sound coming from the front end. I am just going to get a shallow mount 5 1/4" speaker and throw the cover on and call it a day, it sounds fine to me. Next up is the dash tweeters and 4" top speaker in pass. door
burnout8488
If you've got working tweeters and good door speakers, the soundstage should be fine. Adding a full range (and full volume) center channel makes no sense, especially without Pro Logic decoding. In the stock system, the center channel (in Pro Logic mode) is only sent specific frequencies determined by the decoder. (Vocals, mostly mid to high-range stuff)
