boxpin
Can a rear bumper skin from a 99 XC70 fit/work on a 95 850?
adamjjohn203
Ask....well goldponcho seems to be responding now so nevermind....
goldponcho
Yeah, but make sure you use the bumper support and plastic mounts from either side from the XC. I did the same thing on my '96 and it only required drilling a few holes.
boxpin
When I go to the wrecker...what should I grab in addition to the skin? From what I see the way to remove it is take the two 10mm from the front sides out and the two bolts that hold the actual full bumper to the vehicle. I can take the whole thing or just the skin. Obviously the skin only will be cheaper if thats all I need.
goldponcho
John, you're gonna need the whole bumper from the XC. When I swapped mine over, I initially only bought the skin and thought I could swap it onto the 850 aluminum bumper support. Nope, even the foam structure is shaped differently. Grab the white plastic brackets for either side, and you'll have to modify them slightly before you can drill new holes and bolt them on. From the projects you've posted, I'm sure this is easily within your abilities. Here's your motivation:

boxpin
I am thinking about only painting the middle section. Is that a bad idea? I kind of like it like it is. This is mine. Got the whole thing.
volvoskiah
I like the middle section idea, should look pretty good when done
goldponcho
I was on the fence for a while, too, before getting mine painted. I like how it looks with bare plastic top and bottom, but my rockers were red and I thought it would look awkward to change that at the bumper. Still a cool mod for the car. 98t5M
Damn that looks good! Surprised i've never seen this done before.
z31jaime
I am thinking about only painting the middle section. Is that a bad idea? I kind of like it like it is. This is mine. Got the whole thing. If it wasn't for the fact that mine already had everything painted black I would have left the plastic. on top and bottom. Just remember the bottom isn't going to "flow" with the rest of the car because its paint matched. I would see about doing the Rockers in the same color/texture are the bottom of the XC bumper. NOW what I think would look bad ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD would be an XC front bumper on an 850. I did some test fitting also, and this is what it looked like... just needs someone to work out all the finishing touches... I gave up on that project
boxpin
That is questionably the most sexy 850 grill every made...take that volvo emblem off. It detracts.
