Can Anyone Help Me Pick A Muffler For A New Cat Back?

Hey guys!

So I am thinking pretty seriously about getting a full 2.5" cat back exhaust installed on my Volvo GLT SE and the only thing holding me back is a muffler. I just can't decide which one!

I am looking for something fairly quiet, I really don't need a head turning exhaust that you can hear from all the way around the block. I would like something that has a nice low sound and when you step on it, it puts out a nice sound. I included a link to a YouTube video below, a muffler that would give me a sound similar to this would be great! I know it says it's a Magnaflow but it doesn't say which one so that would be great if someone had an idea...

Also, he has a full 3" turbo back exhaust, which will change the sound of the exhaust relative to how yours would sound with a 2.5" cat back

Here's an easy way to get a nice sounding free flowing exhaust

Mostly everything is quiet enough on these cars because the turbo muffles things a bit. Having 2 small mufflers seems to work better for cutting out drone than 1 big muffler for some reason.

Everyone is going to have an opinion on this. If you want QUIET and free flowing I would recommend the Dynomax VT series muffler. There is NO DRONE, you can take it on a trip or even talk in the car(bonus). The flap inside makes a huge difference. I run the 4.0+ in the suitcase area and then that magnaflow in the video at the tip to get the tone. I went through several mufflers (hence the videos) before finding this combination. I am super picky about drone and this solved it.

Do not put the VT at the tip. It needs that extra pipe at the outlet to control the tone.

Thanks everyone!

Just a question as I haven't done much with exhausts before. If I find out what Magnaflow muffler Boxpin was sporting in his 850 (From the video). Would having 2.5" over 3" piping make the exhaust quieter or louder than it was in the video? Also, I will have a resonator and my turbo will be 16t, not 18t.

And has anyone experienced drone with a setup like the one I'm going for? I really don't want it to be so loud I can't listen to music or have a conversation in the car at a normal level.

Thanks!!

I repeat, do not put a VT at the tip. If you go resonator then Magnaflow and you want quite, aint going to happen....you have been warned.

The only thing I don't like about he Dynomax VT is that the sound is a bit higher pitched... I love the sound of the Magnaflow video, I just don't have the money right now to afford two mufflers to achieve the same sound. That's why I am looking for a muffler where I could achieve a similar sound without doing more than just a resonator and a muffler.

Sorry, I know I am not all that experienced in this but thanks for helping me!!

Do you even know what a resonator is?

The goal to a quiet exhaust is to slow down the flow. The VT does that but when you step on it, it opens up and lets it flow. I did the combination Dynomax VT to Dynomax. Didnt like it...want to buy a Dynomax muffler? I have one.
