Added Factory Amp To My 816 And Now My Radio Reception Stinks...

I just added the factory amp to the SC-816 in my 1998 S70 and my radio reception dropped dramatically. Is there something I can do to fix this? Is it possible that the amp is defective?

On a similar note, is there a way to add the diversity antenna to my car? I seem to have the second input on the radio. Thanks.

I think you'd need to add the antenna box (antenna amplifier?) in the rear and run the cable up front. It's behind the driver's side C-pillar interior trim and connects to the rear glass.

Take your car apart, get a mental note of what's not there, then go to a junkyard and get everything.

I looked into adding a diversity antenna for my S70 - it's not worth it, parts are expensive, and are nearly impossible to find used. Took me 6 months to track down the bumper antenna from a full service place on Ebay. If the particular S70 isn't pre-wired for it (mine wasn't, and as far as I know most aren't) it's a guessing game. You need to add in a bumper mounted antenna which consists of a metal plate with a bunch of wires, then you have to run that back to the head unit which is a huge PITA. My research also was not conclusive on whether the "antenna amplifier" is actually necessary.

One more vote for "check the antenna lead" - it's very easy not to push it in all the way. Also, you may want to make sure there's no corrosion or anything on the lead.

I suppose you could also check to make sure that the amp lead is pushed in all the way and properly shielded - I can imagine how unshielded power running to the HU could interfere with the reception.
