Coolant Leak

Silicone vacuum lines are not compatible though.

They will work as a zero pressure hose, as silicone is chemically inert to most chemicals but the Vacuum hoses are not reinforced. Thus under pressure they will expand and tear.

I believe I changed both the turbo coolant hoses when I swapped in my angled 16T...but I do recall the hard line being extremely corroded...maybe I should take a look at those before ordering anything.

I'll see if my buddy can pressure test the system, maybe I'll hear where the leak is coming from, or maybe it'll drip as we're doing it!

I struggled to find a leak in what sounds like the exact same spot as you are describing. It was right when i got my wagon so I was not familiar with the engine. Everyone kept telling me it was the turbo lines but I just couldnt ever see them to be sure. Took it to a local shop, he spent 5 minutes then came back saying it was the lines hah... Sounds likely to me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Alright finally got around to finding my coolant leak. Turns out its not coming from either of the hoses mentioned above (heaters or radiator), but its leaking out between the block and the head.

So the head gasket must be broken in spot some place where its not leaking into the combustion chamber, but just leaking out the sides...

I believe its leaking oil out of a similar spot :(

Any way of fixing this without having to go through a head gasket change? Anyone try using Rislone Headgasket fix?

I know its not good to use these liquid magic bottles of crap, but I dont have the funds to change the HG at this time...

Are you sure it's coming from the head gasket? I had an annoying coolant leak from the same area on my 855 turbo and it was all the small rubber lines going from the expansion tank to the turbo. The coolant ran down the back of the block and would leave little blue green puddles wherever I parked

Yea im 90% sure its from the head gasket...

This afternoon I started the car and it was smoking white with a hint of blue...drove off and it made a small cloud behind me. When I finally parked, 20 minutes later, the tail pipe had very very faint white smoke coming out...barely visible tho.

I think the coolant mostly leaks out when the car is off, and maybe it leaks into the cylinders...making a small pool so it only smokes on startup?

If I decide to do the HG, what parts do I need to change?

The timing belt was apparently done at about 30k kms ago...I'm not 100% sure tho, because I was not the owner at the time. Should I be changing the timing belt and water pump?

As for the HG, is Victor Reinz OEM? Its all I found on fcpgroton...
