Dry Compression Test Result

Volta55

Recommended Posts

did a compression test twice. two different gauges acouple months apart. first gauge was the blue and black advanced auto. 165 ish accross the board. second was autozone oem rental. gave me 135 ish accross the board.185k on the motor. I think gauges can be less accurate but like everyone said it matters more that they are within 10% or whatever the spec is.

220K on the motor, i bought the 855 last month. this thing is burying me with work man.. my alternator just went a couple days ago and now a coolant smell inside ( heater core ) ontop of all the motor mounts, midwest ABS, temp sensors and weather trim i just bought

stage 0 is so far away with a full time job and a tiny wallet

tempting just to go back to the Japanese v40

low moral :glare:

i understand the concept of the oil on top of the piston heads to create higher PSI.. but what does a wet compression test prove when actual driving compression?

so you still have the 40???? i don't get it, take this heap off the road and fix it and daily the 40

yeah the 40 is still my daily..

the low compression results really threw me for a loop.. i should have saved up another grand or two and bought a decent one and not a f5cking money pit

All the items you listed are so cheap and normal. You bought a 200k+ 850, what do you expect?

Any used vehicle like that will need a lot of work. ALWAYS bank on putting $1k right into a used car, no matter what it is.

you are correct.. mounts, abs module heater core exc were cheap and will be easy to install.. but now dealing with the hard internals of an engine intimidates me for sure

I don't know brother....I've tested compression on every Volvo I've had and the lowest I've seen was on a s70 GLT with 235k that was extremely used. That was right around 150-155 on all five cylinders.

That same car now has 270 or 290k and still runs like a top.

You think it might be your gauge? The numbers are way too consistent across all five. Let's just say for shiggles that it was heavily neglected and the oil was rarely changed, neglect like that and you would have other engine problems that would be fairly prevalent.
