"new" Euro Beater

Well, I decided it was time to take the S60 down for some major maintenance. Timing belt kit, full suspension rebuild, turbo rebuild, etc etc etc.

Anyways, that would leave Sarah and I with the two wagons but the Zombie Wagon is really on it's last leg so I was hesitant to drop a vehicle out of the lineup.

A little craigslist hunting plus a little wheeling and dealing and I found a 89 E34 BMW 525i with a bunch of miles but in reasonable shape.

Only spent a weekend giving her some love so far but I think she'll be pretty sweet for a beater.

Sorry for the crappy pictures but SOMEONE forgot the camera at her mothers ...

Parts still coming in. I'll keep you guys posted ;-)

I always liked the E34s. Not the boxiness of the E30 3 series but not the curviness of the newer generations.

Shame it's only a 525i with the M20B25 (and an auto). She's a little slow, haha.

Darn reliable motor and trans combo though. I just need to keep my enthusiast under wraps and leave this as a beater only, lol.

I wonder if my Yakima roof rack fits this though ... Hmmm ... Might need to dig around through my parts inventory.

I love e34's - here's a pic of my old Calypso Red 5 series. It was a fantastic car and very fun to drive. One of the best BMW models-that was ever produced. I paid $700 dollars for this car-when I originally purchased it-but it needed tons of work-and it didn't have a motor. The odometer had a reading of- just under 400,000 miles-before I sold it.

Cool car man! I've always had a soft spot for these. The E34, in my opinion, mixes the old school coolness of the E28, E30, etc, but with modern style, and not nearly as needlessly complex as the newer BMWs. Great cars!

"Oh sweet Calypso!" - Haha. She's a beaut for sure. I hope the new owner gives her the love she deserves. What lip is that by the way?

Snapped a better shot of the car (thought still no camera). You can see the corner which needs a new marker and trim piece (already on order).

S60 is in the background awaiting some much needed love ...

The lip came off of a Volvo 940-and I trimmed it so that it would fit. It's actually a very common mod done by e34 and e30 owners. I wouldn't pay much for that trim piece if I were you-those are abundant finds in most junkyards. If you're going to buy new trim -buy the Euro Trim-like on mine. It eliminates all four bumper lights-and gives a much cleaner look. You can get it here, entire set for $99 bucks http://abrahamsmotorsport.com/

Hit me up via PM if you need any help..I'm a "semi-pro"- expert ..when it comes to e34's. I've dealt with a lot of the electrical gremlins etc..that plague these cars - and studied them extensively.

Just curious, does yours have any rust on it? What part of the country is it originally from?

nah, manual 535s are not that rare over here

Ah, you lucky SOB. Didn't even notice you weren't in the US, haha.

I figured ti was the 940 lip. I've seen it on a few forums here and there in my research. Works on the E34s pretty nicely.

No rust. This car was bought in Germany by a SGM, brought over here to Arizona, sold to a DAC here, then eventually sold to a couple who bought it for their son. She's spent almost her whole life here in Arizona.

I appreciate the offer. I need to finish taking care of a few dozen small things and then I can tackle the issues I know might be a bigger pain.
