Kevin.
Eh there really isn't any proof or obvious difference between the r manifold and japanifold. They're collectors are both the same size and both deeply ported. The only reason why volvo switched from the japan manifold to the r manifold is because the long 5th runner on the japanifold was causing excess heat in the head and causing valve stem seals to wear out quicker. I do believe someone tested the flow rates of the R mani over the Japanifold and the R manifold did flow slightly better. I will try to dig that up for you
JOHN_CENA
ok, so cool stuffs took it for its first drive today. Pretty sure I killed the torque converter. Getting a incorrect gear ratio code via OBD I. flashing arrow comes on, then goes away, then comes on again. Gotta check that out. Also, when going in reverse, if I touch the throttle lightly, the car starts accelerating like mad (lolwtf) and I gotta put it in neutral so it will stop accelerating (ill see if I can get a vid of this happening) I got it up to 35 mph ish, I only drove it for about 3 miles, I don't have plates / registration for it yet, and you didn't hear that from me foward gears are fine, shifted thru 1,2 and 3. pics and stuff I know its ugly, but I plan to pull the engine out again this summer to go to a 16t or 18t (which if anyone has one for sale, let me know!) hotpantslovebug
You're low on coolant. No air filter? Also check your throttle cable, if it's too loose it can ride up on the ridge and bind. Yours looks pretty old, could be Binding. Wd40 is a good temp fix.

woah4
Why are you pulling the engine to go to a 18T? A 16T is a waste of time

woah4
Well that's up to you but I can change a turbo in about 45 minutes, if I'm keeping the same exhaust housing, and I'm by no means a specialist
JOHN_CENA
Well, thought I'd update this. I no longer have the car, I sold it in mid-May to another Volvo enthusiast. He isn't on the forums (i think), but he is on the FB group. He took out the engine again and REALLY made the engine bay shine. Ill ask him to post some pictures up soon, I couldn't give the car the time and money it needed, but the guy who bought it is really taking care of it. It hasn't left the VS community, I wouldn't have sold it to anyone off the street anyway
