Another Boost Issue

all silicone vac lines

21-19 vac at idle

Mostly at half throttle and sometimes full throttle... boost drops drastically and then shoots right back up. Like 15 to 10 to 15 and then holds.

I set my new wastage actuator at around 4 psi. Is that boost cut?

Wow. I disconnected my waste gate. The car has never held boost that well in the past. I was holding it at a solid 15 and the car was pulling hard at 3k. Never felt that before. I could have held it at 18 but that was a little too close for comfort.

Does this mean my new actuator is bad? It's set at 4.5 psi.

i have the same problem like you. for some reason the 4.4 blue tune is not controling boost like it should. if i run it straight from the wastegate actuator the car build boost fast and strong holding at what ever size of the actuator. when i hook it back up to the tcv which the tune is control by it have a mind of it own. mostly overboost or sometime it would surge between 15 psi than to 20psi. i have email lucky about it. let see what he have to say. i have already buy a manual boost controller. i might just run it until the problem is solve. i'll keep you update when i receive my mbc.

Thanks. Definitely keep me updated. I figured it wasn't a tune issue... being that no actuator = solid boost. But I guess it's still a possibility? I'm going to put my stock R tune in with the actuator hooked up next.

Wastegate set at 4 psi = Boost cutting on and off/ can't exceed 15 psi at full throttle

5 psi = Boost cutting on and off/over boost to 21

This new wastegate seemed to surprisingly exacerbate my problem.

Lucky say my .5 bar actuator is too strong for the tune I have. He say I will need a .3 bar actuator to work right with the tune or he can reprogram to make it work with the stronger actuator. I opt. To just get a .3 bar actuator. That is weird if the tune is that sensitive to the size of the actuator you have to run right. If that is true it should be on his build sheet I think. Well I'll keep you inform.

Ok.

This is my car at half throttle. I am not lifting off or pushing down at all.

A little more throttle. Still not WOT

I tried my stock R tune today. I didn't want to go above 5 psi but, it held it very well and the power delivery felt smoother. I'm going to swap in a stock bcs, just to make sure my ac delco isn't the issue.

mine does that also. it will go away once the computer adapt to the boost on set. when i clear out the memory it will do it again for a few days(blue tune 4.4). that is weird because the green tune 4.4 it never did that

today i install the .3 bar actuator with the lowest setting possible (rod all the way out) and it help with the over boost problem but still boosting to 21psi. anything over 18psi something it would misfire. so what i did was just install the mbc from the vacuum tree and tee it to the wastegate actuator. set it to 18psi and it work out great that way. boost build strong and hold at whatever i set the mbc at. i know this is just a bandaid for my overboost problem but for now at least i can wot without needing to let off or shifting to a higher gear. i think the tune can't control the boost properly. some people have overboost problem and some just can't hit the target boost.

I'm trying to rule everything out before I consider the tune.

Threw in kevins ard tcv and still same issue. Also, with his 98 R tune, boost wouldn't surpass 5psi and it felt it didn't want to redline. The only thing left I can think of is to do a boost leak test or try a new maf. Although, it held a very solid 15 psi with the actuator disconnected, so I doubt it's that. Might end up sending my tune to lucky soon.
