Installed A Boost Gauge, Help Figuring It Out Please?

You like to type.

Sorry you're still getting codes.

Cob job refers mostly to mixing and matching trans/cars/ engine management.

Swap a trans in a 60s olds isn't quite the same but I get it.

Hope you can figure all this out.

Sorry for the super long post, just doing my due diligence "in order to restore my credibility".

Actually I think swapping those lines made this problem worse. Now I get weird boost spikes at half throttle while I'm just trying to drive, let alone when I'm hot on the throttle. The next move will be adjusting my wastegate (per the iPd video on youtube). But before I can do that I need to get the gauge and valve I need. I already changed the plugs and the ones I took out look super lean, but I did put about 400 miles on it w/ those vacuum lines switched. Either way its a pretty crappy problem, I don't want to bend a rod just trying to drive my car because I'm constantly getting overboost.

If the wastegate doesn't fix it, I'll get a forge TCV and hope that's the issue. From there, who knows...?

Also, as FWD style transmission swaps go I thought the Volvo was pretty simple compared to other FWD cars I've done.

Adjusting the wastegate fixed the overboost issue and made the car pull like a freight train, now I feel the blue tune difference. I'm guessing the guy that had this car before me was trying to up the boost so he just went nuts trying to make more boost by simply (over) adjusting the wastegate. I still have a faint hesitation and every once in a great while it does sputter a bit, but I'm sooooooo glad I don't need to worry about bending a rod at this point. I boost to about a max of 15 lbs, and its very consistent.

All that said, I just went back and re-read/edited my previous posts in the "Whats going on w/ Lucky" and "ARD's response" threads and if anyone actually reads through all that I still don't see how they could draw the conclusion that my issues were because ARD's tunes are garbage. My issues were related to customer service from the get go. If they would've have allowed me to make the decision to get the Blue Tune in my own time (at which point I would've done a lot of research first), they could've avoided all of this.

I still maintain that the customer service over there is less than stellar. If I were ARD, I would've handled it a LOT differently. First of all I would've honored what I originally told someone about how they could go about getting the tunes, regardless of the (so-called) policy change that seems to have taken place over the course of 1 day. They should've just done the manual tune like they said they would.

Second, seeing how they kind of forced my hand w/ the performance tune, if Lucky would've given me the time of day they could've walked me through diagnosing some of the issues I was having. I don't expect them to repair my car from thousands of miles away, but a little direction would've been helpful.

Wait, did I really just read that all of that was caused by the wastegate not being properly adjusted.....

Not all of it, I still have the weird hesitation and a sputter. The overboost issue was because of the wastegate.

Matt, congrats on figuring it out, for the most part.

However, blue should be hitting 18psi at WOT according to the ARD site.

Thanks, was a good feeling to get consistent boost through the pulls.

I actually haven't had much time w/ it, I fixed it Christmas eve and it sat in the garage all day yesterday. I do know I'm pulling 15, maybe 16 lbs at WOT, but that's really only based off 2 drives; this morn doesn't really count cuz the roads are all covered in snow (again). I also adjusted the wastegate at 4.2 psi, and I guess you can go up to 6 psi and get better performance but I didn't want to mess w/ that just yet.

Next step will probably be the TCV from Snaab Perfromance, its only $75. I already have the RIP kit coming and the guy at Snaab (I think his name's Christian?) seems pretty solid. Also still need to build my 3" dp (already have the parts) and I think I'm going to make a cat back w/ a pair of Borla mufflers.

Is 4.2 what Lucky is recommending, or is that what all stock ones should be?

That's not from ARD, I figured that out myself by searching boost issues. I never got a "check your wastegate" anything from ARD (never really got much constructive direction there to be honest).

I found the psi settings on an iPd youtube vid while searching for how to do it, then made the pressure gauge thing using my air compressor, a vacuum gauge and a T I made out of parts from Lowes.

Skip to 7:24 in the video, that shows what to set the gauge at when doing the adjustment.

My sputter might be related to a bad coil boot (but I doubt it). I changed my plugs last Tues (thanks again for the recommendation Lucas) and the rubber part of one of the boots that goes around the coil pack was broke. I ordered a new one from iPd (they're like $8) as well as all new silicone vacuum lines. I have replaced the lines that were bad already, but I used the cheap crap from the local parts store.

Ironically, that video is infact Lucky telling you :P

Exact same thing happened to me. I boost to 15 now and it pulls harder than it ever did. I had my waste gate too tight, and when loosened, the car pulls very hard. Although, I have the same sputter/hesitation you have. Both at around 5k at wot, and then many times at half throttle the boost just fluctuates.

I tried an ard tcv and a new maf. Still no dice. Going to see if maybe my forge green spring isn't strong enough to hold 18.
