mattsk8
Just thought I'd ask before I bend a rod. I recently replaced my TCV, CBV, fresh air pipe and put a RIP kit on. Everything was good until this morning. At the most random moment, I stepped on the accelerator (not floored at all, prob more like just over half throttle) and it boosted to 24psi all of a sudden, then kicked back down and hasn't done it since. I've had these parts on for a couple days now and this is the first time its done this. I've floored it a few times and it doesn't go beyond about 17-18psi normally; but now I'm very nervous about bending a rod if this happens again. Suggestions?? NEU
The ECU take about 20mile to update it's self relearn a new upgrade. Did you reset the ECU when you bolted everything up? I get spikes of 24psi at WOT sometimes on my 18psi tune.
S70-R
With the new CBV, fresh intake pipe and rip kit you are likely able to get and hold higher boost levels. What boost are you running and what peak boost did you have before? How cold was in the morning? I don’t know but if that was only one time probably the actuator, for some reason (something a little frozen or stuck), didn’t open the WG flapper in the appropriate time. I get spikes of 24psi at WOT sometimes on my 18psi tune. I unhooked the battery for about 10 hours while I did the install. What I didn't do, because the roads were so bad, was do the relearn process the way ARD spells it out. I couldn't really do any medium or hard pulls simply because the roads were completely covered in snow. Maybe I'll unhook the battery and do the relearn the proper way. So far I've actually driven more like 200 miles since I did everything. Glad to hear you get an occasional spike, gives a bit of confidence. Are your internals stock? It was very cold this morning, -10 according the car. The car normally runs 18psi max.

The time you got the spike was the first half throttle pull of the morning? The car was already fully warmed up? Probably the cold really had something to do with it. Something related with the actuator that was frozen or stuck due to the cold conditions. Also remember that cold air = more dense air.
NEU
Yep I'm stock '00R block and 19t. With the ME7 we don't have to worry as much as with the older cars, ME7 is smart enough to dial back the boost if everything is working properly. And you mostly have to worry at low RPM with boost spikes for bending rods.

The engine was fully warmed up, I was already about 15 miles into my trip to work. Yep I'm stock '00R block and 19t. But as fast as it spiked, it came down quickly too.
cgally
Are you sure the TCV was installed correctly?
mattsk8
Are you sure the TCV was installed correctly? For sure its installed correctly. Its perfectly fine and boosts normal all the time, except for the one, random spike.
lookforjoe
You may need to pay attention to what gear you are in. You didn't mention. Going 1/2 throttle in too high a gear will cause rapid boost buildup. This isn't the weather to be going through the learning curve after M66 conversion, for sure. I was in a higher gear, now I run it up to at least 3500 and make sure I'm in a lower gear on my accelerations. It was actually when I came to a stop sign; I started accelerating from the stop, crossed the intersection and I got to a steep hill. Once I started going up the hill I was probably in too low a gear and the boost spiked. Lesson learned, when I get to this (or any other hill) I'll leave it in a lower gear for the incline. WayAway
i ran 23psi in my 850R daily for 2 years. never bent a rod and was never easy on the trottle
