BrickCity242
I have seen a few people asking about these with no real responses other then recommendations to another brand/model. I currently have installed 2 (1 android and 1 ipod version) of these and have a 3rd on its way for my new car. FIRST DISCLAIMER There is currently a YT-M07 that appears to have combined the android and ipod version into one unit. I opted not to get this because it cost more and i personally will never own an apple product. The YT-M06 is a digital media changer. This unit is meant to replace a factory cd changer with a small unit that accepts SD/USB storage while integrating your steering wheel and/or head unit controls of the original cd changer. Also providing you with an 3.5mm aux input. (HU/Wheels controls do not provide function with aux input) HU/SC units http://www.ycarlink.com/2247_Volvo-HU-xxx-SC-xxx.htm Install time: 30 minutes Took me 2 hours due to a poor power connection i made. If done properly the first time it would have been about a thirty minute job. Setting up USB/SD storage. First format the storage device. Now create folders as follows. CD01 CD02 CD03 ect ect ect. You will be limited by the head unit. If it can only see a 8 10 12 disc changer then that's how many folder you can create, Now put your music into your folders. You can have as many songs in each folder as you want but you are limited in two ways here. You can only put as many songs as the head unit can read. With my HU-613 it can only read 99 tracks per CD so i can only have 99 songs per folder. Also each song must be less then 50mb's. Example an average mp3 is about 5mb's so this shouldn't be a problem for most people. Pro's 1.This unit is about as easy to install as it gets. Plug in the Din jack and feed a constant 12v to the yellow wire. I tapped the constant 12v at the radio with a splice connector. (make sure the connection is solid. First time i hooked it up i got several error messages due to a poor connection) 2. Cost. I got mine from amazon new for $70 shipped 3. Retain all steering wheel and HU controls for CD changer controls. 4. Size The media changer is about the size of a tape cassette case. I was able to mount mine in the opening under the steering wheel column inside the upper kick panel. And still can adjust my steering wheel in 2 out of 3 adjustment locations. 5. Under Spec'ed. In its specs it tells you that using storage larger then 8 gigs will cause errors. This has not been the case for me. I have 4 sd cards that are 16/32gig cards and it has worked flawlessly with all 4 cards. All 4 are recommend brands/class's according to the website. Cons 1. When using sd/usb storage you are limited by the number of disc's/tracks your head unit can read. 2.There is no "simple" way to put tracks in correct order inside of the folder. The media changer apparently reads files in order of last time edited. Example: If i wanted it to read songs in order from 1-99 i would have to add them to the folder 1 at a time from 99 to 1. 3.The cable that goes from the media changer to the radio could be longer. Im guessing its about three feet, I wanted to mount it in my arm rest and run the cable under the center console and up behind the head unit. I was about 8 inches short of being able to do it, 4. The included 3.5mm wire they give you is comical. If its a foot long id be surprised. Overall I have had one of these units installed for about 6 months and i love it. Sound quality is night and day between this and my old fm modulator. I have 4 folders that i took the time to add tracks in a specific order and another 4 folders i just cluster dumped into and use it like a week long shuffle. Only thing i regret is not getting the blu tooth add on with my first kit but made sure to order it with the new one. Once i get it set up in the new car i will add to this with some opinion on it. ArmandS40
I am slightly concerned in my ability to connect it to the power source. Can anyone post a picture of the connection made?
