TIZIO AKA 1 HND MEC
Just curious why took them 10 yr to get public? because is a domestic auto maker Comp. ? what is gonna be the result: a big fine like the toyota comp? http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/general-motors-recall-842-000-cars-affected-faulty-ignition-switches-article-1.1702138
Gideon35T
They were hiding the problem. The guy I hired recently has a Saturn ION which is part of the same recall batch. His car had major issues with the ignition switch and his previous responses from GM were basically to screw off. What do you expect? It's a crap company who builds mostly crap and who thinks about their customers as crap. We should have let those aholes fold under the weight of their stupidity. mattsk8
I don't think anyone w/ a Volvo can point fingers at an automobile manufacturer for a faulty ignition switch. I'm not offering sympathy for the Government Motors Corp, just sayin...
Piston Slapper
There's nothing wrong with Volvo ignition switches. The lock cylinders on the other hand... only last twice as long as the warranty.

Mine's new. I used to have to start it, then jiggle it to get the radio and heater to work. It was the switch, not the tumbler (or lock cylinder). I'm hoping somewhere along the way my tumbler was already replaced. But, my car also has 170k on it so it really doesn't owe anyone anything anymore. survolvo
The main reason the lock cylinders go out on the Volvos is because people have 20+ keys and some stupid fob on their key chain putting stress on the cylinder.
Burn-E
Precisely. I've put 400k total miles on 3 98 Volvos ( doesn't include the coupe since I rarely drive it ) and never replaced an ignition switch or cylinder.
JOHN_CENA
Lets also compare the fact that GM recalled 2003 - 2007 models. If you want to compare Volvo ignition cylinders, compare the 01+ P2 car ignitions. I've put well over 100,000 miles across 4 P2 cars, and never had an issue with having to move the key around to get lights / windows / etc to work like 850's do when the cylinder wears out
