A friend of mine is giving me his system, it includes a 600W rockford fosgate amp, a 10" JL audio w3v2 sub, and an Alpine E-series 10" sub. I will most likely not take the alpine cos one sub is plenty for me, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice on setting this up bc I need to do this right. Will this work with my pathetic pioneer DEH- P2500 HU? Also, I currently have 2 cheap jenson 6x9s in the back, 2, soon to be 4 infinity references in my doors, and pretty much toasted dash speakers. Should I just only use the 6x9s and like 2 door speakers?

Also, I don't want the amp and sub(s) just laying in my trunk, i use my trunk, I use the hole for skis, and theres always pretty much an entire detail store worth of stuff in my trunk at all times. On the other hand, my back seats get use too. Any ideas?

Thanks guys

I would build a side mounted box for the sub and use the other side for the amp.

Something like this for example. Scroll down to see the pics.

This one is even better!

It will certainly work with your deck. You may want to eventually add a 4-channel amp to power those front/rear speakers. Say 50 watts x 4.

Let me know if you want to add the XM to your system. I have the stuff for that. Maybe I could trade for an Alpine 10" sub? :P

IMHO, it's not a good idea to mount your amp upside down. It's only good for style but it'll reduce amp' life significantly.

The heatsink will generate heat, and heat always goes up (unless it is directed using fan). The heat'll flow to the electrical components, making the components even hotter.

Lesson Learned.

Vertical position is better than horizontal upside down. But still, I only install my amp in normal horizontal position (maye be a little bit angle < 30 deg).

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah I really don't want to lose my spare, it's been quite handy with all my drifting adventures lately, lol. Thanks for the pictures though, I'd definitely do something like that if I had the $$ and the balls to use up the spare well space.

I've heard before that you shouldn't keep your amp vertical like bogelo said, so I guess I should keep it somewhere horizontal, low, and stable/protected and the subs facing the rear of the car right?

to comment on the upside down amps..

My JL's have been in the car this way for about 2 years now, they're mounted to a custom built rack, there is plenty of "free air" all around them, I don't have any speakers in the rear deck, just the open holes, so the heat from the amps can rise away from them.

I haven't had had any amp cut out or any of the traditional symptoms of an overheating amp. Maybe I'm just lucky. :)

Tequilagrrl...

many people put their amp directly on the sub box itself... if you go that route.. be sure and find a way to secure the box to the trunk (which you'll want to do anyway), ya don't want things sliding around!

I've also seen people mount amps to the back of the seats, which works fine, until you have to fold down the seats to accomodate big cargo.

*EDITED*

From Phoenix Gold amplifier manual:

Vertical is acceptable but not good either.

You can play with sub position and choose which position you like.

As for installing, I'm willing to bet the amp would install under the front seat which is no problem. Then you only need to run wires back to the box and you have a great grounding spot as well as a short line to the battery and short RCA cables. As for a box, I'd go with one that you can easily remove and velcro it to the trunk liner. As for your headunit however, you won't be able to support any subs from it because it does not have any preamps for the subs. This however can be rigged with a crossover to just pull the bass out from the line. Its not the best option but it will give you a fair ammount of bass until you can get a new headunit. If you need any help installing feel free to give me a yell, I'm not that far away from PSU.

Edit: Link added for HU specs.

um..fwd 850? :P

u could mount the amp somewhere on the side...should be some space on the left side...

I was able to mount my amp on the left side of the trunk... I'll take some pics. It looks tight. I just threw some plywood behind it and screwed it fast. :D

And yes... you can quasi-drift in snow in FWD... quasi...
