Misfire Under Hard Acceleration

so I just got my ARD blue tune in the mail after having my motor built by RSI and did a 19t upgrade..While doing the learn in procedure I got a misfire on cyl. 1 and 3 and check engine light. Looks like RSI used Bosch plugs which I've had problems with before. I'm going to the Volvo dealer today to get some OEM's and I hope this sorts it out..Anyone else have issues using Bosch FR7DC plugs..Looks like I paid $2.29 each for them...Maybe I will use them for fishing weights if new OEM plugs fixes this issue...Seems like more you get into this tuning/performance crap the more problems you have..I will be glad when I can get my 850R running proper!

.28 gap on those bad boys you can't just take them out of the box and put them in. In some cases I've heard of people doing a .26 gap even. Pull one bosh out at least and check to make sure the gap is correct.

The correct plug is Fine Wire double platinum 0 242 235 749 (8692071 volvo kit)

will outperform any standard copper plug by a long shot in terms of plug life and performance. end of story.

Thanks for posting up that part number. Just ordered a set myself.

Check with ARD. I believe you may need even less plug gap with the tune.

yeh, thats the kit number I got...they retail for $105...i got em for $84 because of a business account.

thanks for all the input guys...I will check all ignition components including plug gap and i have heard you need less gap with higher boost.

Resistivity:

Copper - 1.6x10-8

Platinum - 10.6x10-8

Platinum has 10 times the resistance of copper. Platinum is more durable, which allows for a smaller tip, thus a stronger electric field gradient. Although the electric field gradient doesn't have a linear relationship with discharge area, the field strength is not 10 times greater than copper, despite the smaller diameter. Platinum will last longer, not perform better.

In practical application, I have always been able to run a wider gap at higher boost, and experience less blow out using these plugs over any standard copper Bosch or NGK, and a MUCH greater life span.

  • 3 weeks later...

So I pulled the $2 Bosh plugs out last night and the plug gap was at .028. I put in my set of $105 Volvo OEM plugs and I no longer get random misfire codes under hard accerlation and the car is pulling super hard! Now I just need to get rid of my rattling TME resonator I bought from IPD...Thanks alot IPD. won't be buying another one of those! Bout to get me a Magnaflow and see if I get a more deeper tone.

$105 for OEM plugs. WTF?

Must have been at the dealership... I think I paid $55 recently. Installed mine last night.
