Ipd Hd Subframe Bushings?

No Ben is just saying that even if they look the same from the picture they may not contain the exact same chemistry. It's true that OEMs dictate their own quality standards to their suppliers who then pass that on to their suppliers. So Volvo comes up with a spec for the subframe bushings on the XC90, passes that on to Bosch, Continental, TRW, Febi, etc. who then either carry out the manufacturing themselves as Tier 1 suppliers or pass on the specs to their suppliers (Tier 2-x). Everyone involved has to meet the specs set by in this case Volvo.

Scantech can also purchase subframe mounts from the same supplier designed to fit the XC90. What Ben is saying (I think correctly) is that an aftermarket company will not have the same requirements for the mount supplier and therefore the quality can be lower to allow the cost to also be lower.

This isn't always the case. For example, sometimes we buy Hutchinson mounts that actually have 'Volvo' stamped onto them and then you can be pretty sure it's the same thing.

Of course, that's no problem. Although it probably won't be until sometime this summer.

Not a worry. I've got enough small things to replace to keep me busy until then haha. I really could use new bushings though!

That's the case here. These scantech ones are not only stamped with Volvo and the same numbering, but have the same material layering... they're almost certainly just making more than Volvo needs and selling the rest to scantech etc. If you took one out of a scantech bag and one out of a Volvo bag and mixed them up you'd never be able to tell which one was which.

Even if they use the same mold and the same injection molding / rubber casting machines doesn't mean they have the same QC requirements & material quality standards. The only way to know 100% is to see what Volvo's spec is and what Scantech's spec is. Is it possibly they are use the same exact spec? Its possible but improbably, When they make these things they make them in huge batches and then they get tested. If something doesn't pass Volvos standards it could get rejected and then sold to Scantech. With injection molding and rubber casting its not a 100% yield process, thats why there are QC processes. To visually look at rubber and think you can say its the same at a chemical and molecular level is impossible. They can look the same to the naked eye but that doesn't mean anything.

On a part like this it probably doesn't matter because they never fail they just get old and sloppy... If you are bothering to upgrade the subframe mounts at all i would skip this and go straight to delrin.

I agree with you 100% on that one, I'd only recommend these XC90 ones, regardless of vendor, as an OE replacement, not an upgrade.

Thats sort of what I've been thinking. Just nice to see someone say it, my mind is made up!
